Draft:2021 Hack of Indexed Finance

On October 14, 2021, decentralized cryptocurrency investing platform Indexed Finance suffered a hack resulting in the loss of $15 million worth of cryptocurrency assets, though some sources disagree on this exact figure. Though initially unknown, the attacker was quickly identified as 18-year-old Andean Medjedovic thanks to his poor OPSEC.[1] [2] [3]

Aftermath

edit

A civil suit seeking return of the assets to the hack was filed against Medjedovic first by Cicada 137 LLC, representing anonymous client(s). According to court documents, this lawsuit was filed no later than November 28, 2021.[4] On December 9th, 2021, founder Dillon Keller and core team member Laurence E. Day filed a class action against Medjedovic.[1] [4] Subsequently, Day and Keller were added as party intervenors to the Cicada 137 LLC v. Medjedovic case.[4]

Medjedovic fled the country before authorities could apprehend him.[5] [2] [3] On March 16, 2023, DLNews reported that Medjedovic claimed to currently reside on "an island".[6]
