Álvaro de Marichalar Sáenz de Tejada (Pamplona, Navarra, Spain on April 25, 1961) is a Spanish explorer, businessman and aristocrat. He holds several world sailing records, including the Guinness World Record for the only crossing of the Atlantic achieved on a jet ski[1]..

Born in Pamplona, Navarra, in 1961, he was an aviation pilot and served in the Air Force for two years[2]. He studied Business Administration in Florida.[3]. An entrepreneur in the real estate and telecommunications sector, in 1984 he created TeleSat, a pioneering company in the sale of satellite dishes in Spain[4].

In 30 years, he has carried out 39 maritime expeditions[5] all aboard jet ski type vessels.

2013: Caribbean Caribbean Tour (on the occasion of the V Centenary of the Discovery of Florida and the Pacific)[6]. Tribute to Blas de Lezo for the 325th anniversary of his birth.

2006: Hong Kong-Tokyo (on the occasion of the V Centenary of the birth of his ancestor St. Francis Xavier).

2004: From Formentera to Odessa (in homage to the founder of Odessa, the Spanish sailor of Catalan origin José de Ribas).

2003: From Paris to London, world record First Crossing of the Canal de la Mancha on jet ski[7].

2002: From Rome to New York (on the V Centenary of the fourth and last voyage of Christopher Columbus to America). For this expedition he obtained the Guinness Record for crossing the Atlantic in 17 days, 1 hour and 11 minutes[8].

1999: Crossing of the Panama Canal, (From Puerto Colon to Contadora Island on December 31, date of the reversion of the sovereignty of the Canal[9].

1999: From Mallorca to Sardinia 800 Nautical Miles[10].

1999: From Porto Cervo to Puerto Portals: 400 nautical miles non-stop World Record for non-stop distance. Mahon to Alghero: 200 nautical miles non-stop. Stretch Mahon - Alghero 200 miles open sea distance record [11].

1994: From San Sebastian to Cadaques passing through Lisbon and the Balearic Islands (Commemoration of the V Centenary of the Treaty of Tordesillas) World record 2,000 nautical miles[11].

1993: From Seville to Genoa, single-handed sailing, 1,350 nautical miles, World Record.[12],

1992: From Ibiza to Mallorca, World record open sea distance[13].

He is currently on a solo expedition around the world in the smallest boat in history. His expedition is called "FIRST World Tour "."[1]" "[2]"

With his expedition he is celebrating and commemorating the 500th anniversary of the First Circumnavigation achieved in 1522 by Juan Sebastian Elcano and initiated in 1519 by Ferdinand Magellan.

Its main mission is to raise awareness about the problem of plastic waste in the sea, oceans, lakes and rivers.
