History edit

The Dillanos roasting facility in Sumner, Washington.

David Morris opened Dillanos in 1992 with the help of his stepfather, Howard Heyer.[3] Named after Morris's son Dillon, the business originally consisted of one espresso cart in front of Heyer's convenience store in Buckley, Washington. Morris and Heyer opened two additional retail outlets the following year.[citation needed]

Chris Heyer, Howard's son and Morris' half-brother, joined the operation shortly after it opened and started roasting with a 20-pound coffee roaster. In 2004, Dillanos moved its roasting operation to Sumner, Washington, just east of Tacoma.[citation needed]

In 2011, the company was named Roast Magazine’s Macro Roaster of the Year.[2] Dillanos roasts specialty coffee brands with more than 1,600 wholesale locations serving their coffee nationwide. Dillanos Coffee Roasters owns Barista 22,[4] a brand of syrup/sauces and powdered drink ingredients used by specialty coffee retailers, and Avalanche Baking Company (ABC), a bakery.

Dillanos Coffee Roasters acquired Avalanche Distributing in Zillah, WA, in 2022.[5] Through this acquisition, Dillanos reaches a wider direct delivery area in their home state, previously done through UPS and FedEx.[6] Dillanos Coffee Roasters also acquired Dominic’s Coffee.[7]

As of 2012, the company employed nearly 70 people in a 45,000-square-foot (4,200 m2) roasting facility.[2]
