History

edit

Danesfort GAA club was founded in 1922.[1] It was awarded its first Kilkenny Junior Hurling Championship title in 1925, and also won the competition in 1930.[1] Promoted to the Intermediate grade for the following season, the club won the Kilkenny Intermediate Hurling Championship in 1931.[1] The club played in both the Junior and Intermediate grades for several decades, without winning any championship titles.[2]

In the 2006/2007 season, Danesfort won the Kilkenny Junior Hurling Championship, Leinster Junior Club Hurling Championship and All-Ireland Junior Club Hurling Championship. In the latter, they defeated Clooney Gaels of Antrim in the final in Croke Park.[3] Players on this team included (captain) Tony Woodcock, brothers Paddy Hogan and Richie Hogan and midfielder Paul Murphy.[4]
