Should these be kept?

edit

@Pppery: these appear to be for secondary schools, not colleges. – Fayenatic London 15:35, 24 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Fayenatic london: I've been aware of this tree ever since it showed up on the maintenance lists that I later would publicize as User:Pppery/User category report#Redlinks: Wikipedians by alma mater: and User:Pppery/User category report#Miscategorized: Wikipedians_by_alma_mater: and largely said "this is too complicated, just punt". My thoughts are, if you look back to Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/User/Archive/August 2007#Category:Wikipedians by high school and subcats , the underlying reason was Being a member of a particular high school does not inherently foster contribution. The social networking aspect of it is not something to be desired by our user category system.
It's probably best to ignore precedent here and just analyze that question: Does having gone to a religious school associated with a particular branch of catholicism inherently foster collaboration or is it merely social networking [... that] is not something to be desired by our user category system? In the former case, these should be kept, and in the later case they should be deleted. As an atheist, I really can't answer that question.
One final note: I generally view the goal of my user-category-related edits to be to enforce past consensuses reached, not break new ground, and thus am reluctant to nominate category trees that have been around since 2006 for deletion. * Pppery * it has begun... 16:33, 24 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
OK, thanks. I think these may be useful in both showing interest in a subject and declaring potential bias, so I will not take action over them either. – Fayenatic London 07:57, 25 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
