Categories for crashes

Is there a reason for having Category:Road safety, Category:Traffic collisions and Category:Road accidents and incidents? To me they all seem so closely related, they could go in one category. Johnragla (talk) 17:28, 21 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Road safety is also about avoiding accidents in many aspects, and about reducing their impact. That category is well-filled and has its own purpose, although some items may fit better in A+I. Road A+I need to be separate to be able to link up into accidents categories. Splitting off "Traffic collisions" (TC) is formally supported by the many items filling it, while some do not fit. These are very few, giving quite an unbalanced split, yet the separation is sound. But let's see if the items in TC match: I do not think that rollovers, falling down ravines/into water/from a bridge/from a building/from an airplane are actual collisions. (The current definition leaves out fire/explosion without touching anything, maybe some others.) Of course, most excursions include the collision with a barrier, but this is rarely the reason and also not the main outcome. Accident causes, rescue, trauma treatment would fit better in A+I, and the single accidents would need review to reassign them. Currently, I have too many construction sites open, so I cannot undertake this in the next time. --Mopskatze (talk) 03:26, 5 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

I'm not convinced, but thank you for the explanations. The examples may not be collisions with other road vehicles, but they are collisions with something. Maybe wait and see if there are any other views?Johnragla (talk) 03:50, 5 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
