I've searched Wikipedia and can't find an explanation of what a "tracking category" is, what defines a category as one that would be "tracked". I looked through the list of articles in this category and aside from Wikipedia-related topics, I can't find a commonality that would explain why the others are in this category. What makes a category, trackable? Liz Read! Talk! 00:58, 28 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

@Liz:. I am not aware of any formal definition of them being made anywhere. In general however, our top-level naming scheme for categories is a mess with "tracking categories" and "administration categories" being used interchangeably in a confusing mix. I have raised this issue at Wikipedia_talk:Categorization#Simplify_and_refine_naming_of_category_classes. You are invited to give you opinion if you still are interested in this subject. Why isn't Tracking_categories under Hidden_categories?

edit

I'm not necessarily saying it should be, but perhaps it should. RVS (talk) 23:43, 3 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

@RVS: Although most (if not all) subcategories of Category:Tracking categories are indeed hidden, the category itself is not, therefore it does not belong in Category:Hidden categories. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 18:56, 4 November 2017 (UTC)Reply

Doubt regarding a category

edit

In this category, why was the article Articles containing Austro-Bavarian-language text included? It needs to be in some other category right? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Adithyak1997 (talkcontribs) 11:05, 5 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Adithyak1997: It's there because Hugopako (talk · contribs) added the {{tracking category}} template with this edit. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 14:43, 5 August 2018 (UTC)Reply
