The cat doesn't distinguish between historical Syrian Christians and Christians in the modern Syrian Arab Republic. I suggest creating another category for the latter, one option would be Category:Syrian Arab Christians.--Rafytalk 20:28, 17 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

There is a bit of a question here. In I think most general usages, the word "Syrian" does rather clearly imply or state that the person in question is, for whatever reason, counted as being related to the nation of Syria. "Syriac", however, at least in those cases in which I have seen the word as it relates to Christianity, tends to refer to the Syriac Christian tradition. That tradition, which includes the Syriac Orthodox Church, the Assyrian Church of the East, and some other groups, is not so clearly and necessarily related to the nation of Syria, but rather the related churches. Is there at present a separate category for use regarding those Christians who qualify as "Syriac Christians" on the basis of their religious affiliation? There is a . Most scholars however still prefer to use the term "Syrian" when referring to "pre-Syrian Arab Republic" figures, and there should be a global agreement before transferring all Syrian Christians to Syriac Christians.
