Rationale for & naming of category

@Immanuelle: this should either be renamed to "Shinto shrines by [some characteristic]", or merged to Shinto shrines. What do these sub-cats have in common? – Fayenatic London 10:11, 5 April 2023 (UTC)

@Fayenatic london these are all ways of ranking Shinto shrines for the purpose of determining which ones get more funding, and are all essentially successors of each other or subtypes if I understand.

As I understand it the 22 shrines was the first system, then the second system divided shrines into Myojin Taisha and Kokushigenzaisya

Then in medieval times there was a shift to Ichinomiya and Ninomiya and theoretically less common categories like Sannomiya

Then with the Meiji Restoration the system was made more systematic with the Modern system of ranked Shinto shrines

Then after the loss in WWII that system was abolished and replaced with the Beppyo shrine system.

All of these are top down categorizations of shrines and their prestige. They are unrelated to categorizations based on the deity or geographical location. Immanuelle ❤️💚💙 (talk to the cutest Wikipedian) 14:43, 5 April 2023 (UTC)

OK. Well, if the sub-cats here are not all one thing e.g. "Shinto shrines by traditional system of ranking", then I suggest that this category needs to be upmerged. – Fayenatic London 15:55, 5 April 2023 (UTC)

The category is Shakaku which on English Wikipedia redirects to Modern system of ranked Shinto shrines. Immanuelle ❤️💚💙 (talk to the cutest Wikipedian) 17:10, 5 April 2023 (UTC)
