Inclusion criteria

edit

The inclusion criteria for this category are not specified. Wikipedia:Inclusion criteria requires notability, so only a limited number of people will fit into this category and not be one of the sub-categories. How does Wikipedia determine who qualifies for this category? I would suggest that to qualify for this category the settler concerned should be someone who arrived in New Zealand before about 1860 (this date is flexible and may differ for different areas but probably should be within 10-20 years of first colonisation of an area) and was one of the first people in a particular area who farmed the land, explored or surveyed it or participated in early business, government or administration of an area, especially if they had some geographic feature or settlement named after them because of their early activity. However, this is not the place to document every passenger who arrived in steerage on a immigrant ship. They should still be generally notable enough to merit their own article. Just because they were an early settler does not warrant an article that gets included here. They have to qualify by having an article because they are notable, first, which might be because they were a notable settler. Thoughts? - Cameron Dewe (talk) 02:41, 20 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
