Category talk:Rodeo

Question

Was there an attempt to put every existing rodeo-related article into this category as a non-diffusing category? I'm thinking it would be better to mostly diffuse it into appropriate subcategories where possible. I've done a little of this, but won't go hog wild until other folks can comment. Montanabw (talk · contribs) As we've now discussed, it was a temporary approach to help in sorting and discussing the entire Rodeo category structure. I didn't make it as clear as I should have. Thanks! I have gotten all of the articles under this category moved to subcategories that I could the other day. I left articles that didn't fall under the purview of any of the existing sub-categories for us to go through. Some articles did not state what events the subject participated in, just that they were a rodeo participant, for example. Or, they were the only participant of an event, and we didn't want to create a sub-category for just one participant. Or, for instance one subject was the chute boss at Chute 9 at Cheyenne Frontier Days for an extended period of time and was inducted into the Frontier Days Hall of Fame but doesn't really fit into any sub-category. And the list goes on. Additionally, last night I found some other rodeo articles that were not categorized under any rodeo categories but should be. Some fell neatly into existing sub-categories. Some did not, and I added them to this parent category to be looked at. I can make a list to make things easier for us when we are ready to go through them. I think it works. The chute boss could be listed as a rodeo professional rather than performer. The nice thing about diffusion is that you can put articles into subcats, but where they just don't fit, sometimes being in the main category is a good way to get other eyes on the problem. Montanabw (talk · contribs) He's actually both performer and chute boss. He was a qualifier at the NFR in roping but never won a championship. However, he's in three halls of fame. Mostly, though he's known for being the Chute Boss of chute #9 for Cheyenne Frontier Days and in their hall of fame, so I put him in the Rodeo professionals category like you just mentioned. I don't think he's necessarily notable as a roper, but I had added that category earlier. Let me know your thoughts on this individual Dan Taylor (rodeo).

He could be in both the roper and the professionals category, in his case. The article, at a quick glance, looks fine. Montanabw^(talk) 22:28, 8 May 2017 (UTC)
