Merger of Cats

I just cleaned up the "Category:Public utilities of the United States" cat. I think this one should be merged with that one but am open to other ideas. RevelationDirect (talk) 03:18, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

I would not merge them. The reason is that the term Public Utilities Commission usually refers to a regulatory agency in a U.S. state that is charged with regulating tariffs of regulated utilities, including typically fixed-line telecommunications, electricity and gas distribution, and water and sanitation services provided by private utilities. To complicate matters, in some states the entities fulfilling these same functions are called Public Service Commissions. And, just to confuse things a bit more, the utility providing services for San Francisco is also called a Public Utilities Commission. However, this seems to be the one exception where a utility in the U.S. is called a PUC. I would thus move the SFPUC to the category utilities, and add only true regulators - whatever they may be called - to this category. I will start by the one on Texas, which has an article on Wikipedia and look if there are already articles on other U.S. utility regulators on Wikipedia.--Mschiffler (talk) 00:24, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
