Sir Bernard Ashley should not appear in a list of Old Whitgiftians since according to his Wikipedia entry, hotlinked from the OW page, his school was the Trinity School of John Whitgift. The Old Boys Association for this school is the OMWs, being the Old Mid-Whitgiftians.
Both of these schools, along with their sister school The Old Palace School of John Whitgift, are part of the Whitgift Foundation (established by and in memory of John Whitgift, Archbishop of Canterbury during the reigns of Elizabeth I and James I (VI).
The original school in the foundation was Whitgift. When this school moved to larger and more salubrious premises at Nottingham Road in South Croydon in the 1930s the much smaller 'middle class' school moved in. The Middle School moved to Shirley Park in the 1960s and beca,e the Trinity School of John Whitgift - leaving the site to be developed into a shopping mall, known as the Whitgift Centre.
The Girls school that was established in the old Archbishops Palace in Croydon and known consequently as Old Palace School, became a part of the Foundation in the last decade of the twentieth century. John Welbeck 2 (talk) 21:50, 26 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
