Category talk:Musicians work group articles needing discographies

If this category is to become useful, it will need guidelines for notability. For musicians, notability is established by sales certifications (gold, platinum, diamond), chart peak positions (Billboard), Awards & Nominations (Grammy's, or Oscar for best song), and to a lesser extent concert sales. The latter is only relevant for the headlining band and may be in part dependent on the preliminary acts. I would tend to set some rules based on the first 3 methods. I would also have separate rules for pre rock and roll, 50's-70's, 80's & 90's, and 21st century artists since notability is fleeting. I am open to suggestions, but will probably leave the page open for now unless I see a lot of personal favorites populating the page.

I believe the standards for citing that a group is deserving of a wikipedia discography attention should be higher than the standards of notability for an article. I think a group should have achieved notability for sales, chart topping success, or awards notoriety. Thus, your favorite band that has a stub class or start class biography page is probably not worth noting as having a deficient discography. Of course, you are free to donate your time by making them a discography if you want. However, calling attention to the fact that they do not have one is not necessary or appropriate.
