Referring to these various skills and gimmicks as "techniques" elevates them to an undeserved level of respect. Most of the so-called articles are packed with information that is intended NOT for the non-guitarist (descriptive/informative, that is) but for the guitarist, therefore "how-to" — NOHOWTO.
The topic of "how a guitar is played" would be much better served by pulling these fragments together, getting rid of the instructional fluff and the fanboy name-dropping, and creating a single unified article.
