Handy search tip

edit

I can't think of a more acceptable place to put this, and can't really justify putting it on the page itself.

In order to Google only sites that only belong to a particular domain you can use:

site:.domain search term

So, to search only sites belonging to .museum for references to Salvador Dali enter the search:

site:.museum "salvador dali"

Note the period after the colon.

Well, I find it very handy. --bodnotbod 10:01, Feb 13, 2005 (UTC)

The TLD organisation is not very useful

edit

Do you organise your files by which ones were created by companies, and which ones were created by non-profit organisations? No. Does anyone? No. Then why is the Internet organised this way?

It has ended up being practically a flat address space with the TLDs not providing any useful categorisation of sites or information about the subject of a site

A much more logical domain system would be something similar to the system for newsgroups, where the groups are organised into a logical hierarchy of categories. Jibjibjib 06:51, 17 January 2006 (UTC)Reply
