This category contains articles about things that are still happening. This means, in general, that there is a statement or section in the article mentioning a recent date. If your aim is to call attention to a particular article or topic, see Wikipedia:How the Current events page works. Please only add articles that will have widespread coverage, as a local event is not a notable event by Wikipedia standards.
To add an article to this category, tag it with {{Current}} or {{Current|section}}. Note that these templates were created to warn editors that the article in question is being editing today by many editors, and not particularly to note recent news. Subject-specific templates for current events include:
I moved the category to here because it is proper grammar (eg. we have category:Tractors, not category:Tractor). I forgot to delete the old one. I'll do it now. JOHN COLLISON (An Liúdramán) 15:18, 29 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Maybe this would be useful: {{section:current}} to tag an article's section, that gets updated often. --tickle me 01:01, 9 November 2005 (UTC)Reply
How current does something have to be for it to remain in this category? - LeonWhite 05:58, 27 February 2006 (UTC)Reply
I have no idea. I looked at about ten or eleven articles, and in each case wasn't sure if I should remove the tag. A clearer definition of what we're looking for would help greatly.--Marysunshine 00:36, 7 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
Adding items to the category for the current yearedit

I've just added one of the articles in this category to Category:2006. Is this necessary, or are articles moved to the relevant year category automatically when they are no longer current? Athenaeum 15:01, 2 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Here's the current (18:52, 6 July 2006 (UTC)) contents of this category. (Some non-ascii characters in titles have been mangled; please review the real category listing for those.) Please remove items from this list after reviewing them, and removing the current event tag if needed. Quoting the page, "This means, in general, that there is a statement on the page mentioning a date within the last month." Once this list is done, please remove the backlog tag from the category. This way we can know when the backlog is handled. JesseW, the juggling janitor 18:52, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
Someone asked for more specific instructions on this; I'm not sure exactly what to clarify, but...
Open an item on this list.
Read(or search) through the article for a mention of July, or June (making sure it's 2006, not some earlier year).
If a July 2006 date is mentioned, it's a current event - leave the tag. If a late June 2006 date is mentioned, it is probably still a current event - use your judgement, deaulting to leaving the tag. If no June or July date is mentioned, it hasen't been updated recently enough to be a current event - remove the tag.
No matter what you did to the article, remove the entry from this page.
Done. I had some time to kill, so I knocked it out. I was happy to help, and this was the perfect project for the period of time I had. There were current tags for stuff that happened in 2002. There were current tags for entries that hadn't been edited since March. It's done now, though, and I've removed the backlog tag. It will be interesting to see how long it takes to get another backlog. Baseball,Baby!balls•strikes 15:36, 12 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
Updated as of 20:03, 14 August 2006 (UTC). Some Unicode messes reamain, sorry. See above for instructions; the list is now sorted by time of addition to the category. If people want, I can easily add "Last updated" timestamps as well. Go to it! JesseW, the juggling janitor 20:03, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Which temporal templates (Current and Future templates) should be displayed, apart from the ones already mentioned? Brz7 02:38, 17 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

This seems very simple. Already with page protection, they've managed to make the tag automatically time out after a certain period (e.g. here), after which, I presume, an adminBot comes along, deprotects, and rm's the tag. Surely, we can have a one month timeout on current event tags too? I was working on the back log yestday but only got through Z,X,Y and half of W. -- Kendrick7talk 23:20, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
I see someone else suggested this at the template's talk page, and it has been implemented. Good work! -- Kendrick7talk 05:10, 6 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Why is this a hidden category? It is part of the content of WP so should be visible to readers. -- Alan Liefting (talk) - 21:14, 10 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
