Nepalese recipients of Indian Order of Merit (1837-1947), available in three classes. The First Class of the Indian Order of Merit (IOM) was the highest gallantry award for native soldiers of the British Indian Army until 1911, when the Victoria Cross was opened to native soldiers and officers too, and replaced this First Class as the top award. However, the Second and Third Classes of the IOM remained available till 1947.
