The Battle of Kamani (July 1993) was fought between Georgian and Abkhaz forces, with Abkhaz forces defeating the Georgians and thus capturing the village.[1][2]
Background
editIn (c. September 1992 - July 1993) the Abkhaz and Georgians had negotiated ceasefire agreements under the guarantees of Russia, with Georgian going so far as to "withdraw all of it's armor and artillery from the theatre and even pay Russia for the hire of cargo ships." After signing practically all the proposed agreements, the Georgian population in Gagra was subjected to mass executions and ethnic cleansing between October 1-3, 1992. The agreement of May 14, 1993, was also violated by separatist attacks on Tamishi (July 2), Gumista (July 5-6), and Shroma-Kamani (July 7-9).[3]
