History

edit

Ariana FC was formed in the summer of 2015 with the stated goal of moving up to the Allsvenskan.[2] The initiative for the formation was taken by young people in Malmö, and the club has described itself as an association that will add color to Swedish football.[3][4] The club has been called Malmö's first Afghan football club[5] and was founded by players with an Afghan background, including Norlla Amiri, Omid Hushmand, and Saber Azizi.[2] Hushmand stated in an interview that the name Ariana is an old name for Afghanistan.[6]

In the 2016 season, the club won all matches in the reserve team series and then played in the league system. After winning Division 7, Ariana FC reached second place in Division 6, but advanced to Division 5 by defeating IFK Rössjöholm.[7]

Before the 2019 season, Erol Bekir became the new coach.[8] This club then won Division 5. In the following year, precisely in 2020, Bekir left his role as coach. With Nesat Spahiu as the new coach, the club finished second in Division 4, which allowed them to advance to Division 3.[9][10]

Before the 2021 season, Samer Ali became the new coach. Halfway through the season he was replaced by Tommy Ringblom, and the club won the series.[11][12][13][2]

Stadium

edit

Since its founding, Ariana FC has had Hyllie IP in Hyllie in Malmö as its home ground.[2] The club has also played some home matches at Limhamns IP.[14]

In 2023, the club moved to Malmö Stadion and IFK Malmö moved from there at the same time.[15]

Youth activities

edit

In the summer of 2018, the association started a raven team and the following year youth activities. At the turn of the year 2021–22, the association had approximately 250 active members.[16]
