Ankush Hazra filmography

Ankush Hazra is an Indian actor, producer, dancer and television personality who primarily works in Bengali cinema. Known for his contributions in both mainstream and middle of the road films, he made his acting debut in 2010 with Kellafate,[1] directed by Pijush Saha. Though it was a hit, his fame came with the masala film Idiot (2012), which was his first film with the banner of Eskay Movies. His performance as a news reporter of Anandabazar Patrika in the political thriller Kanamachi (2013)[2] directed by Raj Chakraborty, won him critical acclaim. Through the film, he draw the attention of the urban audiences and it became a breakthrough in his filmography. The following year, he starred in a dual roles in the action film Khiladi, another film produced by Eskay Movies which was a commercial success.

In 2014, he gained the huge following with the romantic action film Ami Shudhu Cheyechi Tomay (2014),[3] an Indo-Bangla joint venture which was the biggest hit in his career at that point of time. The song "Bangladesher Meye Re Tui" from the film, topped the charts of Bengali music labels. Though his next releases Romeo vs Juliet (2015) and Aashiqui (2015) became biggest commercial failures, he appeared in the comedy Jamai 420[4], directed by Ravi Kinagi and produced by Shree Venkatesh Films. In spite of receiving mixed reviews, Jamai 420 became one of the highest grossing Bengali films of 2015. He portrayed the role of a radio jockey in the romance drama Ki Kore Toke Bolbo (2016), which released on the occasion of Valentine's Day. In this film, the chemistry between Ankush and Mimi Chakraborty, received appraisals from the critics and audiences. The following year he starred in Kelor Kirti, which also starred Dev and Jisshu U Sengupta in leads. It was a super hit at the box office but received mostly negative reviews.

Ankush was appreciated again for his brilliant performance as a rising gangster in Srijit Mukherji's multistarrer action thriller Zulfiqar (2016), a modern-day adaptation of William Shakespeare's 'Julius Caeser' and 'Antony and Cleopatra', which also had Prosenjit Chatterjee, Dev, Parambrata Chatterjee, Jisshu U Sengupta, Kaushik Sen and Rahul Banerjee in leads and released on the auspicious occasion of Durga Puja. He was nomminated in the 'Best actor (Male)' category of the 13th Dubai International Film Festival. He next appeared in Haripada Bandwala (2016), Ami Je Ke Tomar (2017), Bolo Dugga Maiki (2017) which were box office hits.

In 2018, Ankush went under a tough training and had to make 8 pack abs on his body, to justify his characters in the action thriller Villain (2018), a criticall and commercial hit. He also learnt martial arts and kickboxing to perform the action sequences in the film. He appeared in the comedy Bibaho Obhijaan (2019) with Anirban Bhattacharya and Rudranil Ghosh in leads also, became a box office hit and later followed by a sequel Abar Bibaho Obhijaan (2023). His performance as a psychopath magician in the 2021 psychological thriller Magic and as an ex-naxalite in Indraadip Dasgupta's Uttwaraan (2022), was acclaimed critically. He played the role of a crime investigator in ZEE5's web series Shikarpur (2023), which became one of the most viewed webs of ZEE5. He did a special appearance in Nandita Roy and Shiboproasad Mukherjee's action thriller Raktabeej (2023).

Ankush launched his production house Ankush Hazra Motion Pictures in 2023. The first venture of the house was Mirza: Part 1 - Joker (2024), starring him in the titular role. It became blockbuster at the box office and his performance as vigilante person, received appraisals from both the critics and audiences. Now his upcoming releases are going to be Mon Kharap (2024) directed by Pavel and Ashukh Bishukh (2024) directed by Kaushik Ganguly.
