Airalo is a US-based startup founded in 2019 by digital entrepreneurs Duran Akcaylier and Bahadir Ozdemir.[9][10][11] In 2019, Airalo secured $1.9 million in seed funding from Antler and Sequoia Capital.[12] In 2021, it secured $5 million in Series A financing,[13][12] followed by $60 million Series B financing round in 2023, led by e& Capital, the venture arm of e&, with participation from Antler Elevate, Liberty Global, Rakuten Capital, Singtel Innov8, Surge, Orange, T Capital (the venture arm of Deutsche Telekom), KPN Ventures, Telefónica Ventures and I2BF Global Ventures.[14][15][16][17][18][19]

As of 2024, the Airalo app has 10 million users and is available in 53 languages.[20][21][22][23][24]
