2024 MTV Video Music Awards

The 2024 MTV Video Music Awards will be held at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, on September 11, 2024. The show will be hosted by Grammy winning rapper Megan Thee Stallion, marking her first hosting debut. It will honor the best music videos, artists, and songs released between June 22, 2023, and June 20, 2024.[1][2] The ceremony was originally scheduled to take place on September 10, 2024, but was rescheduled to a day later to avoid conflicts with the presidential debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris.

Taylor Swift was the most nominated artist with a total of ten, including eight nominations for her collaboration with Post Malone on the single "Fortnight".[3][4][5] Katy Perry will be honored with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.[6]

Nominees

The first round of nominees were announced on August 6, 2024.[9] Taylor Swift led with ten, followed by Post Malone with nine, and Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter and Eminem, who had six nominations each, and Megan Thee Stallion and SZA, who had five each.[1][2]

Voted categories

The winners of the following categories will be chosen by fan votes.[10] The first round of voting known as the "General Voting Period" began on August 6 at 11:45 pm. ET, for the categories which nominees were announced on the same day[10] and will conclude on August 30 at 6 pm. ET, except for Best New Artist, which will conclude on September 10 at 10 p.m. ET.[11]

Voting system

The official voting system for the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, according to MTV, is as follows:[11]

  • Each voter must be at least 13 years or older should not be affiliated with Viacom International Inc. to participate in the voting.

General voting period

  • The first round of voting is known as the "General Voting Period" and includes most of the voted categories (15 out of 19 categories).[10]
  • It began on August 6 at 11:45 am. ET, and will conclude on August 30 at 6 pm. ET, except for Best New Artist, which concludes on September 10 at 10 pm. ET.
  • Each voter can vote up to 10 times per category per day through Vote.MTV.com.
  • Voters should have signed in to their MTV.com Account, as its necessary to limit their votes across devices.[10]

Double Days and Power Hours

  • There will be three "Double Days" with "Power Hours".
    • August 6 from 11:45 a.m. to 11:59 pm. ET
    • August 7 from 12 a.m. to 11:59 am. ET
    • August 30 from 12 a.m. to 6 pm. ET
  • During these periods, voting limits arre doubled; each voter could vote up to 20 times per category per day.[11]

  • The second round of voting known as the "Instagram Story Voting" is yet to be announced.
