The 2024–25 Detroit Pistons season will be the 84th season of the franchise, the 77th in the National Basketball Association (NBA), and the eighth in Midtown Detroit. This will be the Pistons' first season under a new head coach. On June 19, 2024, the Pistons fired head coach Monty Williams after one season of coaching the team.[1][2] This will be the Pistons' first season under a new president of basketball operations after finishing the previous season with the worst record in franchise history at 14–68.[3][4]

The Pistons will hold the fifth overall pick in the 2024 NBA draft, along with one second round pick. The NBA draft lottery was held on May 12, 2024.[5][6] After finishing with the worst record in the league the previous season, the Pistons had a 14 percent chance of getting the top pick in the draft, and were guaranteed a top-five pick.[7][8] With the Pistons having an early first round pick and a late second round pick by a trade with the New York Knicks, they will look to utilize the new draft structure of working on both rounds on two straight days instead of just one day like they had done since the NBA draft was implemented in two rounds properly back in 1989.
