Pakistan population - 2023 Census edit

Please update Pakistan's muslim population based on 2023 census. Total population now estimated at 249.6 million, excluding Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan (collectively Pakistan administered Kashmir). 97% of this expected to be muslim - 242 million.

Not done please provide reliable sources that support the changes you want made. The linked source provides the total population as of 2023, but not the Muslim population. "97% expected to be Muslim" is speculative. Rehsarb (talk) 14:13, 29 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

2017 results in the link above (which were released in full) have the figure at 96.5%. We should use this until full 2023 census results are released (beyond total population already quoted in earlier reply).
Thank you. M.suleiman.a (talk) 20:56, 1 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Already done The table under the countries header already lists 96.5% and cites the 2017 census, so it looks like this edit has already been implemented. SSSB (talk) 11:44, 4 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

PLease can somebody at least mildly competent take a look at this.

250 million total population exclusing Azad Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan.[1]

96.5% * 250 million = 241 million.... — Preceding unsigned comment added by M.suleiman.a (talkcontribs) 17:52, 8 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

We can't apply 2017 proportions to 2023 totals. That would be bad practice outside Wikipedia, especially when there's such a dramatic increase in the population (~20%), but on Wikipedia it would breach a key policy, that of verifiability, and our consequential policy Wikipedia:No original research. This revision from 4 October 2022 by Nillurcheier introduced an error for Morocco that is still uncorrected today: a 4.1 percentage instead of 2.1. There may have been other leftovers too, but this is what stood out in that currently a 37M for Afg is 2.0% while 36M for Mor is 4.1%. Unfortunately correcting to the earlier 2.1 still leaves a discrepancy, presumably due to updated demographics diverging from what was used to calculate the % column, but at least it'd be much closer and somewhat acceptable. Ah, it's because that 36M should've been 37,930,989 (99% of the total pop of 38,314,130), then the 2.1 makes sense. -- 188.25.167.21 (talk) 16:27, 9 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

to
|align=left|{{flagg|pspew|al=c|pref=Islam in|Morocco}}
|36,738,229
|36,370,847
|style="background:#228B22; text-align:center;"|99
|align=center|2.1
Source is the fact that the linked revision has changed the perfectly good (back then) values
|38,314,130 |37,930,989 |99 |2.1
into the nonsensical
|38,314,130 |35,930,989 |95 |4.1
... note that 95% of 38,314,130 is 36,398,423½ so the value 35,930,989 doesn't make any sense, especially with it keeping the final 6 digits. The 95 has been corrected in the 2 years since then, but the 4.1 has not. 188.25.167.21 (talk) 00:57, 11 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
