This is better. Top 10 listed with IH, auto trails, and US. ~~ This page was edited by ĈĠ 00:31, 3 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Perhaps, but I'd rather opt for the bare-bones leaderboard so it can be a "get-the-info-in-five-seconds" table. We shouldn't post even a half-complete leaderboard on a blog, IMHO. But to each their own. CL — 00:48, 3 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

I nominate ComputerGuy. The work he's done for WASH is certainly commendable, and his maturity rivals those twice his age. I think that certainly merits featured member for October. CL — 03:56, 29 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

I am very honored that you would nominate me, thank you, CL! ~~ This page was edited by ĈĠ 22:41, 29 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Support - ComputerGuy is a hard working editor. With continued work on writing and grammar skills, CG has the potential to be a major force for improvement in the USRD community. Dave (talk) 17:58, 7 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

New GA's A's and FA's

With the newsletter, the new GA and higher promotions earned a mention on the newsletter. How should we handle this now? Dave (talk) 21:18, 5 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

You can just put it in. --Rschen7754 (T C) 21:36, 5 November 2008 (UTC)Reply
How about a section called, "Article Promotions" at the top of the Blog? ~~ ComputerGuy 23:47, 5 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

  • December

I'd like to nominate User:Algorerhythms for December. He has made countless maps for almost anybody who has asked, as well as contribute to articles. Dave (talk) 23:23, 2 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

How long should voting continue for December? shouldn't get get something up soon? Dave (talk) 16:45, 5 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

The result of the proposal was User:Ljthefro. Merry Christmas, from ComputerGuy talk 16:43, 20 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

  • January

I'd like to nominate User:Ljthefro for January. Ljthefro is USRD's secret weapon for Nevada. When the project first started compiling state based statistics Nevada was dead last with well over 3/4ths of all Nevada road articles being stubs. On the IRC channel Nevada's road articles were even the butt of some jokes amongst some editors who were competing for stats. What those editors didn't realize is Nevada's road articles have been slowly improving, and the stub count slowly dropping, and Nevada is now ahead of several other states. Ljthefro has improved many former stubs to C or B status, and we're all waiting for him to get gutsy and nominate one for GA! =-) Dave (talk) 23:23, 2 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

OK, February was a rough update for the portal. In early 2008 we got a backlog of nominations for DYK, Featured Article, featured picture and featured editor. The latter half of 2008 we ran through those, and are now out. We need more nominations for pictures, articles and editors.

Here are some people that I think are more than deserving of Featured Editor and I submit for discussion by the larger group. I'm hoping to take this approach to get some more feedback, the process has been kinda lonely lately:

  • User:Admrboltz, an editor who helped Utah's stats rise from worst to first in the USRD standings
  • User:DeFaultRyan, another editor who helped Utah's stats
  • User:OlenWhitaker, don't know much about this editor, but their name is all over Colorado Highway articles, and a lot of red links disappeared thanks to this editor.
  • User:Xnatedawgx, another editor I don't know much about, but they do a lot of maintenance and other thankless jobs on USRD articles, like category sorting, etc.
  • User:DanTheMan474 a relative new comer who has been a valuable addition to the project.

*User:Polaron an old timer who has taken an active part in review articles lately

  • User:Rschen7754 makes the tough decisions that aren't always popular, or sometimes even decisions I agree with, but decisions that have to be made.

PLEASE discuss these, add your own, and nominate some featured pictures and articles too. Dave (talk) 06:25, 7 February 2009 (UTC) Dave (talk) 06:25, 7 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

I'd second Polaron. He's been doing a great job with reviewing articles, and he helped out with the US 40 Alt FAC, even finding some sources I didn't know about for it. - Algorerhythms (talk) 18:47, 1 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Same here. --Rschen7754 (T C) 18:58, 1 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Done, crossing out Polaron and leaving the rest for future discussion.Dave (talk) 16:46, 6 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

"Leaderboard"

edit

Maybe this predates my becoming active in this project...but why do we call the wikiwork update a "leaderboard"? My concern with this is that any non-project editor reading the blog could get the impression that there is a competition between state-level projects. There is no contest, so I don't think we should give any impression that there is. "WikiWork update" or something similar would be fine, with less emphasis in the commentary about changing placements. Just my thoughts... --LJ (talk) 05:02, 9 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Maybe it's because that's what it was nicknamed in the newsletter that predated the blog, and over time there has been a bit of a friendly competition that revolves around it. It's more a matter of personal pride than anything else, although there are those who criticize it. I say if it serves as motivation, then that's a good thing. Imzadi1979 (talk) 05:14, 9 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
The whole competition aspect of the Wikiwork table is a holdover from back in the Newsletter days, when states would be competing for a top-ten spot. I can see the detriment in a "leaderboard," but I think that it just provides friendly competition, as Imzadi said. CL (T · C) — 01:46, 10 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
I started getting active in USRD around the time the newsletter was phased out in favor of the blog. So this is before my time, so to speak. Thanks for the explanation. --LJ (talk) 03:42, 10 February 2010 (UTC)Reply
