- Note that Special:ListRedirects only contains the first 5000 redirects created in 2001.
How to go to a redirection page
editI made a redirection from 'Zero tillage' to 'No-till'. When i search for 'Zero tillage', i am redirected to the 'No-till' page, so i can't edit the 'Zero tillage' redirect (for example to add another meaning of that term). To get the 'Zero tillage' page, make the URL like this : Zero_tillage&redirect=no
Title
editThe title ("List redirects") and the page name in the URL ("Listredirects") are different. This causes confusion in linking. Ardric47 04:46, 17 April 2006 (UTC)
- This is the case for most special pages. Rob Church (talk) 01:27, 22 April 2006 (UTC)
Limited Display
editIs there any reason why this special page is limited to displaying only the first 1,000 entries? Currently the list ends before reaching the letter C. This would seem to me to make this special page rather worthless Dbiel 01:38, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
- Indeed. We need one that sorts alphabetically and allows you to specify where to start – basically a version of Special:Allpages just for redirects – Gurch 15:39, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
- It doesn't seem like anyone is listening here. Helloo? Admins? 65.93.145.210 21:08, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, admins, please remove the limitation of 1000 entries asap. Toddcs (talk) 04:24, 13 February 2009 (UTC)
Removal of redirects
editIf the links that point to the redirect page are modified to point to the correct page, that would mean the redirect page is not required and can be deleted. However is it allowable for a user to do this? Considering the some links are on user's talk page and other special pages, could there be a case where the redirects should remain in place? Do they serve another purpose such as helping when a user does a word search, for instance they type in AlgeriA instead of Algeria by mistake and therefore the page would help process it?
Jaspotn (talk) 06:15, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
- Many redirect pages are where the title used to be, so muhc of the history is there. See AlgeriA's history for example.—Random832 18:35, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
Redirects to?
editIs there a way to find out which entries redirect to a certain page? Thank you. --HappyInGeneral (talk) 10:33, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
Not sure if it's what you want but under "toolbox" on the left hand side of the screen there's a link called "What links here". This will display what other pages have links to a certain page. You just need to be on the page that you want to find the links to. It will list redirects with a "(Redirect)" comment Jaspotn (talk) 01:09, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
- Yes I see now, Thank You! :) --HappyInGeneral (talk) 15:19, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
- It took him/her a month to see, it... :-)
- In any case, the "What links here" page is very useful, but not so much in the cases where the articles in question are linked to from thousands of other pages. Take the United Kingdom, for example; about a year ago it was the forty-eighth most linked-to article with 91,911 links, and who know where this figure is today. Try to find a redirect in that.
- No, no, there are plenty of reasons why one ought to be able to see all redirects leading to a page. Therefore, I have decided to propose the creation of a special page (or anything else equally effective) taking care of this problem. See the relevant section in the technical Village Pump for the discussion. Waltham, The Duke of 12:37, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
- Ah, well, nothing really came out of this... Apart from the knowledge that there is a tool showing redirects, linked from "What links here" pages. I'd never noticed it, but it's there. Pity it's not part of Wikipedia, but it's useful all the same. In any case, I think this closes the issue permanently.
- For now... Waltham, The Duke of 02:34, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
- OK Now there is ... what links here... deselect oinks and transclusions et viola!
- "It took him/her a month to see, it... :-)" => Right, actually a TalkBack on the user page would make it even faster :) (now I'm browsing through my watch-list with AWB, and here is a 2 year old post of mine, cool!) --HappyInGeneral (talk) 21:38, 9 October 2009 (UTC)
We need a search functionality ... a static page of the first 5000 is useless.
editEnglish WP currently has over 5000 redirects before we get to the A's. This is totally useless and unpractical. We need some search ability similar to Special:AllPages. Or better yet, maybe Special:AllPages should have an option to show only Redirects. Special:PrefixIndex allows us to hide redirects ... why can't we show only redirects?? Special:PagesWithProp can select redirects with property "staticredirect" but it's sorted in random order. Special:Search could be useful, but it doesn't allow you to search for redirects. A bigger question is why can't we have ONE tool with ALL these features?? Rather than create more one-use tools, why not create one multi-use tool?? Seems to me that's the only practical way forward with these tools. LibraryGeek (talk) 06:15, 20 December 2018 (UTC)
- @LibraryGeek: Have you submitted a feature request for this? Samsara 17:48, 3 February 2019 (UTC)
- Um, no ... how would I go about doing that? This was more of a comment than a specific request ... there are several possible solutions, and I think a general discussion of what is possible/practical would be needed before making a specific request. Other than the talk pages, were should this be discussed? LibraryGeek (talk) 07:59, 10 February 2019 (UTC)
- I'd like lend a suggestion to this stale conversion: sort descending by page size. I would guess that many pages that are large redirects would be ones from edits like this and may want to be evaluated, unless there is already a tool to do so. —Ost (talk) 17:12, 30 January 2020 (UTC)

- I second this. It seems to me that a limited list of redirects with no search function is entirely useless. MClay1 (talk) 13:49, 4 April 2023 (UTC)
