Wikipedia talk:Deletion to Quality Award

Do merge candidates count? edit

Would merge discussions count, or only deletion discussions? If the former, you might be interested in Menacer, which went from a merge candidate to FA.   czar 16:11, 25 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hey, Czar, that's an awesome accomplishment in Quality improvement -- but it would only count if the merge discussion took place during an ongoing WP:AFD. — Cirt (talk) 19:12, 25 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Please be aware of a potential misuse of the AfD process edit

I initially MFDed this project page, but on advice of @SmokeyJoe withdrew it. I'm opening the discussion here on this talk page and hope for people's input.

I suspect that this project has led (or at least has the potential) to a misuse of process by needlessly placing AfD onto reasonable articles. An example of this is Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Murder of Jo Cox opened by @Ritchie333. Regardless of the outcome of this particular AfD, it might be useful to make some note on this project page that clearly states that people should not abuse the AfD process. I encourage everyone to look here and state your opinion in terms of possible misuse of the AfD process without necessarily discussing the merits of keeping or not that article.

Many thanks for your consideration and thoughtful input! Mootros (talk) 15:46, 17 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

I will echo SmokeyJoe's comment: I don't see any connection between this page and the article for deletion discussion you are referring to. Do you have any evidence of editors nominating pages for deletion and then subsequently being a major contributor to achieving Good Article or Featured Article status? Is there any indication that anyone values having their name appear on this page to an extent that they would submit insincere requests for deletion? isaacl (talk) 16:10, 17 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Miscellany for Deletion edit

On the off chance that anybody might still be reading this Talk page, I'm disclosing the fact that I just added an entry for an article that achieved GA status. However, the deletion discussion involving this article was not at Articles for Deletion, but at Miscellany for Deletion. Although the instructions mention only AfD's, I found nothing in the Talk pages here that gave any guidance as to whether an MfD discussion did or did not also confer eligibility for the Award. In this particular case, the draft could have been placed directly in Main space and, if it had, would likely have been nominated at AfD for the same substantive concerns given in the MfD nomination.

If anyone here feels that my adding this entry to the list is inappropriate, I'll be happy to discuss the matter further. NewYorkActuary (talk) 00:03, 31 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Megatokyo edit

Megatokyo is no longer a FA. should I remove it from the list? L293D ( • ) 15:59, 27 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

As best I can tell, you're the first person to ever ask this question. I hope others will weigh in with their opinions but, to me, it's a question of whether the award is just for the initial effort involved in getting it to Featured Status, or whether it requires on-going maintenance of that status. Perhaps the cleanest general solution is to keep such articles on the list, but somehow indicate that they no longer have Featured (or Good) Article status.

But this might all be moot for the Megatokyo article. Its nomination for deletion was closed, two hours after being posted, as a "bad-faith nomination". The article was never at any real risk of being deleted and I think the entry should be removed for that reason alone. NewYorkActuary (talk) 17:13, 27 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Shelby Starner edit

Could someone add this article: Shelby Starner to the examples listed here? Danke! TJMSmith (talk) 19:38, 21 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Haiti at the 1936 Summer Olympics edit

I helped this article get promoted to GA a month ago and just thought, might it qualify for listing here? It was not the subject of an AfD, but a discussion topic for its deletion/redirect was made at the Olympics project, which is where I saw it and why I worked to improve it.
