Jen Jones had a press release that was reported by TSN et al that Jill Officer is moving to alt and Jocelyn will join her team. 96.55.104.236 (talk) 04:34, 10 March 2018 (UTC)

Jennifer Jones to GA?

edit

I've been pretty busy the last few years... but since Jennifer Jones has retired from women's curling, would folks in this WikiProject be interested in working together to get that article to Good Article status (like we did for Rachel Homan a few years back)? Mostly expansion and references needed, and I could work on a stats table. Allthegoldmedals (talk) 23:07, 7 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

I'm down if you've got the time. Though, I think my next focus will be around the Broomgate controversy as I follow along with the new podcast about. We definitely need an article on that.-- Earl Andrew - talk 13:23, 8 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
I wouldn't have the time to take on a significant majority of the work to get to GA, but if you and/or others in this group are able to pitch in then I could definitely find the time to contribute. Good idea on Broomgate, too. Allthegoldmedals (talk) 15:36, 8 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Stats table added to Jennifer Jones (curler), missing a few possibly sourceable stats and refs so anyone feel free to add to it if you find anything. I can work on expanding some of the article prose content in the coming days. Allthegoldmedals (talk) 20:02, 24 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
I'll see if I can find some sources. -- Earl Andrew - talk 21:00, 24 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Shoutout to @TracyFleuryFan: for adding a bunch of info! Sorry I've been on and off having time to edit. I'm thinking the article looks good enough to put up for nomination – anyone have anything else they wanted to do before we do that? Allthegoldmedals (talk) 00:57, 3 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Happy to help! I think the 2010-13 section still needs to be updated a bit but other than that I think it is good. TracyFleuryFan (talk) 03:30, 4 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Added some info and refs there and nominated the article. Feel free to add/change anything while we wait for a reviewer, of course. Allthegoldmedals (talk) 13:50, 4 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Swiss names

edit

I noticed with the streams from the Baden Masters that a lot of Swiss players are now going by hyphenated names (Benoit Schwarz-van Berkel, Romano Keller-Meier, Pablo Lachat-Couchepin). Wondering if the titles of their pages should be changed to reflect this? TracyFleuryFan (talk) 04:02, 20 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Well, we have to abide by Wikipedia:RS and WP:COMMONNAME. At this point, I think only Benoit Schwarz (van Berkel) qualifies for a move, as most of the media was referring to him by his married name, and so is CurlingZone (though, notably not World Curling, yet). For the others, I've only noticed they changed their names on their jerseys, but nowhere else. -- Earl Andrew - talk 13:22, 20 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
https://livescores.worldcurling.org/wmcc/aspnet/teamdetail?EventID=1&TeamID=18 World Curling has this listed for WMCC in April. Also, CurlingZone has changed Romano Meier to Romano Keller-Meier. Just wondering if this is enough for a move? TracyFleuryFan (talk) 21:41, 20 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
I won't oppose any move myself, especially considering if they were women, there wouldn't even be a debate. I do know that Benoit's article should definitely be moved at this point. Keller-Meier hasn't been in the news recently, so technically it's probably too early to make a decision. -- Earl Andrew - talk 13:42, 21 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Kristin MacCuish

edit

Move page to Kristin Gordon? She's registered for PointsBet on Curl Canada as Gordon and her jersey also says Gordon. TracyFleuryFan (talk) 17:39, 7 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Well, they'll be calling her Kristin Gordon at the PointsBet event, so I won't oppose a move.-- Earl Andrew - talk 20:37, 7 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Canadian Open Slam

edit

With the Canadian Open moving to November this year all of the links to 2024 Canadian Open (curling) unfortunately have to be changed. I'm assuming a sufficient name would be 2024 Canadian Open (January) and 2024 Canadian Open (November) as that's consistent with what has been done in the past. Wondering if there is a quick way to have all the links changed or if it has to be done manually. TracyFleuryFan (talk) 04:10, 12 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

There may be a bot that can do it for you. You can go here to request one: Wikipedia:Bot requests -- Earl Andrew - talk 13:24, 12 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
WP:AWBREQ may be a more appropriate place ot make the request. meamemg (talk) 14:08, 12 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the guidance on where to go, I really didn't want to have to do that manually.
In looking at the page for the Canadian Open, I see Rachelle Brown listed as winning the slam with Homan but on her page it isn't counted in her Grand Slam wins. Do we have a policy on when alternates are included in the win / when they are not? Just wondering since some teams compete a front-end rotation with the alternate (ex: Seol Ye-ji on Gim) and others don't. TracyFleuryFan (talk) 17:02, 12 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
User:Traveltheglobe listed her for some reason, but I don't think she played in any games, so she shouldn't be there. I've gone ahead and removed her. -- Earl Andrew - talk 20:26, 12 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Team Homan posted on January 11 that Rachelle would be their alternate for Canadian Open and she was on the bench during the event. Since she didn't play any games does that mean it doesn't count as a slam win for her? If she had played an end or two in round robin, would it count? Just trying to establish a rule around it for the future since it's such a grey area. TracyFleuryFan (talk) 22:33, 12 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Well, we have to be careful to avoid original research in determining who we should be listing. When in doubt, we should just go by whatever they list on the website (which doesn't include Brown, nor is she in the picture of the team). If we think there are other people who deserve mentioning, we need to find secondary sources to back up the assertion.-- Earl Andrew - talk 13:41, 13 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
