Possible new CheckWiki error: URL with invalid character in domain name
editI haven't investigated in depth, but T350190 suggests a Linter check for invalid characters in domain names. It would probably be better to use CheckWiki to monitor this error. – Jonesey95 (talk) 17:04, 17 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Jonesey95: CheckWiki is in maintenance mode, ie. bug fixes, keeping it running. There are no maintainers adding new rules. I can't speak for WPCleaner which is maintained by NicoV (talk · contribs). --Bamyers99 (talk) 20:02, 17 March 2024 (UTC)
- I can always add such a rule in WPCleaner, independently of it being added to CheckWiki or Linter. If I understand correctly, it's just looking for some unauthorized characters in the part of the URL that's between
http://
(or equivalent) and the following/
: is it just that ? Linter has the advantage of working on the rendered page, so it's better at detecting problems caused through templates for example. NicoV (Talk on frwiki) 21:02, 17 March 2024 (UTC)- There is a suggested query at https://quarry.wmcloud.org/query/77756 linked from the Phab ticket. I don't know if it is valid. – Jonesey95 (talk) 17:41, 18 March 2024 (UTC)

Section without content (84)
editIn eswiki, when the last section (External links) does not have links below it, it should also appear in "Section without content" (84). When you only have categories below, NF or Authority Control should appear in the list. I give an example. Thanks. Vanbasten 23 (talk) 06:09, 12 April 2024 (UTC)

enwiki new dump
editMoin Moin Bamyers99, I have a difficult question. Will it be possible, to insert a new full dump of english Wikiepdia? The last full dump is from 2017 (nearly 5 million article), now 7 years later nearly 7 million articles. Perhaps it will be possible? King regards --Crazy1880 (talk) 18:41, 3 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Crazy1880: I will give a try after the smaller dumps have completed. --Bamyers99 (talk) 20:13, 3 May 2024 (UTC)
hewiki new dump
edithey Bamyers99, thank you for supporting the project. Is it possible to create a new dump for hewiki? last one is from 2022-06-01. Alternatively, if there's no need due to the daily scans, I would be happy to be linked to where I can learn more about the differences between the full dump and the daily scan. Thank you! Checkwiki #6 DEFAULTSORT
editShould examples such as:
{{DEFAULTSORT:{{Title year}} Hua Hin Championships - Women's Singles}}
be excluded from the error, since they do parse out to the "wanted" result, despite the code having a template/magic word in it? Or should we replace these {{Title year}}
manually with the plain text version of the year in the titles? There are a ton of these matches for error #6. Jonatan Svensson Glad (talk) 21:55, 6 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Josve05a: The program did not process templates inside DEFAULTSORT. I have coded it to skip the check if a template is found. --Bamyers99 (talk) 00:02, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
- @NicoV: Perhaps something for you to "patch" for WPCleaner as well. Jonatan Svensson Glad (talk) 00:29, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Josve05a. Thanks for the notification. It should be fixed in the next release. NicoV (Talk on frwiki) 07:37, 8 June 2024 (UTC)

empty alt attributes
editThis search describes a lot of empty alt attributes that probably should be a real alt
. It might be good for WCW to have this on the list of things to fix. The primary cause of these empty alt attributes seems to be VE doing a shitty job with images. Looking only within file/image syntax (and not template syntax) to start seems reasonable, and only in the main space (as there are commonly reasons outside main space to want an empty alt text). - Here are another 8,000 pages using a similar search. There may be some false positives in the results. – Jonesey95 (talk) 19:39, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
No server access today
editHi. Error message : « Could not connect to database: Unknown MySQL server host 'tools-db' (-2) » Croquemort Nestor (talk) 04:01, 23 August 2024 (UTC)
- The issue is still there. Why isn't this a service hosted by the wikipedia foundation btw? Stefangrotz (talk) 13:34, 23 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Croquemort Nestor and Stefangrotz: It is back up. Just had to kick the web server :). toolforge.org is a wikimedia server. See wikitech:Help:Toolforge. --Bamyers99 (talk) 20:31, 23 August 2024 (UTC)
