The France one is not likely unless we have any volunteers in the London area. Perhaps reach out at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject London to see if someone can track down the one copy? ~ Rob13Talk 23:04, 23 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Rob, per the Italy book you sent me I created the Wikiquote article q:Ciro Paoletti. However the Spain book is a compilation of chapters from various experts. Can you look in the Bibliography section (page 201-213) if the book contains any similar bibliographical essay? If it is just plain list I don't need it however if it is an essay then I wonder if you would be able to sent me that. I am going to post a request at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Military history if they can do something with the France book. Solomon7968 13:33, 25 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You could reach out to individual editors at the London project. The point is just to find a Wikipedian who happens to live in London. I'll take a look at the Spain book and send you the bibliography. You have a better idea of what you're looking for. ~ Rob13Talk 14:02, 25 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Solomon7968: Having difficulty remembering - did I ever get back to you on checking the Spain book again? ~ Rob13Talk 17:30, 7 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Prabhanjanmutalik: We can only provide scans of sections of books to make specific improvements. We can't provide a scan of large sections in the hope something useful is in them. If you received a scan of a table of contents and index, would you be able to better identify what sections would be helpful? ~ Rob13Talk 21:19, 26 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Okay so here is my issue. I need to create an article on this very book of which I have only one source (this being the other one). Usually the Introduction sections of these books contain the summary of the book and the author (which I desperately need). What would you advise me to do? Prabhanjanmutalik (talk) 22:13, 26 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
In that case, yes, we have a strong rationale to scan the introduction. I was just trying to ensure we weren't scanning a random section hoping it might contain something you find interesting. That would be a copyright issue. ~ Rob13Talk 22:39, 26 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

[Sappho] edit

{{Resolved}} All for Midnight poem:

  1. Denys Page (1962). Poetae Melici Graeci. Section on fr. 976, which appears to begin (at least according to Google Books' snippet view) on p.520.
  2. E.M. Voigt (1971). Sappho et Alcaeus. Section on fr. 168B. I can't find out which pages this is, but I can't imagine that it's more than a few pages. Also her conspectus metrorum and comparatio numerorum for Sappho would be useful, not just for this article.

--Caeciliusinhorto (talk) 08:41, 4 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Caeciliusinhorto, I've got the first one – there's only half a page on fr. 976. E-mail me so I can send it to you. – Uanfala (talk) 11:54, 16 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Received first from Uanfala. Thanks! Caeciliusinhorto (talk) 14:15, 16 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I've also now sent you the section on fr. 168B. But how about conspectus metrorum and comparatio numerorum? Are they parts of the same book? – Uanfala (talk) 10:39, 19 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Uanfala thanks, got it! There is a conspectus metrorum and comparatio numerorum in Voigt 1971, I believe. (I've not actually seen a copy, so I don't know for sure, but stuff I have read seems to say that it does). They would be part of either the front- or back-matter of the book. The comparatio numerorum is basically a table relating the different sets of numeration for the poems together, so you can look up e.g. fr. 168 B (Voigt) and be told that it is fr. 58 Bergk, fr. 94 Diehl, and fr. 976 PMG. A conspectus metrorum is an overview of metres, I don't know what form exactly it will take in Voigt I am afraid.
Don't worry too much if you can't find them, though; the commentary you did get me from Voigt relieves my concerns about the meter of the midnight poem. Caeciliusinhorto (talk) 16:28, 19 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Daines Barrington edit

{{resolved}} Daines Barrington wrote an "Essay on The Language of Birds" which was apparently reprinted in Thomas Pennant's British Zoology volume 3 - however looking up these sources does not let me find an online version. I am pretty sure this must be online somewhere but my Google-Fu fails me. Thanks in Advance. Shyamal (talk) 01:32, 22 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Shyamal, I don't have time to properly search for it, but you might try these. In the 1812 edition, vol III is reptiles & fish; vol II is birds, and the only Barrington I found was this. You may have to do some digging and look at each individual version of each volume; searching from the index page (i.e. using my first link above and simply adding "Barrington") isn't reliable. BlackcurrantTea (talk) 02:34, 22 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Shyamal: Despite finding sources that say it appears in volume 3 there's no reference to birds by Barrington. The closest one that I can find is an essay called Experiments and Observations on the Singing of Birds by Barrington reprinted in volume 2 birds. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 02:46, 22 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Many Thanks @BlackcurrantTea: @MrLinkinPark333: !- I have already run through all of these - I still do not think that essay was titled differently. Shyamal (talk) 03:44, 22 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Shyamal: I've found a letter about the language of birds to Barrington, from Gilbert White. The full letter is here. I could be way off still. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 03:58, 22 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Shyamal, this may be what you're looking for: Of the Language of Birds. BlackcurrantTea (talk) 02:49, 23 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
BlackcurrantTea - thank you, that is a useful source for a few bits of biographical info - but I am not convinced that that essay is by Barrington. Curiously though, this essay is not actually found in the editions of Smellie's Philosophy of Natural History that are online - iarchive:philosophynatur03waregoog, iarchive:philosophyofna00smel and iarchive:philosophyof00smel - I am going to consider this as a possible error by Barrington's original biographers - maybe it was just a reference to his other essays on bird song etc. which perhaps somehow got italicised to indicate a more specific title. Shyamal (talk) 03:37, 23 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with your conclusion, Shyamal. Mentions of it are scattered around, but I looked at several editions of Pennant's British Zoology, and all I could find was Experiments & Observations. This, by the way, is a nice clean copy of it.

This paper states that John Aikin quoted Language of Birds in "An Essay on the Application of Natural History to Poetry," specifically in reference to nightingales. Here is Aikin's essay, with the mention of nightingales, referring to the "same ingenious paper of Barrington's," as quoted in the nightingale essay. Going back a few pages to find out which paper he's referring to, it turns out to be Experiments & Observations. BlackcurrantTea (talk) 04:50, 23 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Article from Newspapers.com edit

{{not done}}

Hello. I would like add to the Victoria Park, Los Angeles page. I would like a link - from Newspapers.com - to the article titled "L.A. by Any Other Name : One Man Crusades to Bring Back Neighborhoods' Nostalgic Titles" from January 28, 1995, page 43.

Here is a link: https://www.newspapers.com/image/158986617/?terms=%22victoria%2Bpark%22

There is an online version of this article through the LA Times archives, but for some reason the Times has dropped the accompanying photo. The article is about a sign that was specifically made for the neighborhood and should be visible when someone clicks on the citation. Phatblackmama (talk) 20:42, 8 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Phatblackmama: We'll not be able to fulfill this request. This newspaper is only available with the (very expensive) Publisher Extra level of access to Newspapers.com, and that access isn't something anyone has here. (It's beyond the level of access the Wikipedia Library grants.) As you already have access to the source elsewhere, I gather that a copy for-your-eyes-only wouldn't do you any good, and we can't provide a copy of anything to be uploaded for people to see, as that would be a copyright issue. ~ Rob13Talk 01:04, 22 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Missing bird plate edit

I thought it may have been a mistake in the original publication, but a tiny version of the plate can be seen here (under "On the Psittaci of the Mascarene Islands"), so it must exist somewhere:[4] Perhaps in the official digital Ibis version?[5] The image is in the public domain, so could be nice to upload to Commons. --FunkMonk (talk) 19:17, 18 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Citation details from Elias & Mock Encyclopedia of Quaternary Science section on "Volcanic Tephra Layers" edit

For ice core, I would like to cite Elias, Scott; Mock, Cary. Encyclopedia of Quaternary Science (2012) (2nd rev. ed.) Elsevier. I can see the text I need (section "Volcanic Tephra Layers") on Google Books, but I can't see who the author of that section is or what page numbers to cite (and I think the book is multivolume, so I would like to know which volume it is). I'd like the page numbers for the whole section -- looks like three pages on the prevew. I also can't see the ISBN but I can probably figure that out separately. PMID 25315288 If so, it would be a great help to me if you could send me a copy. This one too if anyone has access (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25876146). Please let me know when you have a chance. Thank you! TylerDurden8823 (talk) 07:25, 26 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The acne article. Why do you ask? TylerDurden8823 (talk) 07:47, 26 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@TylerDurden8823: We require this information to ensure that providing copies of articles or book chapters is protected under copyright law as fair use; it's something we ask of all requests. ~ Rob13Talk 15:08, 26 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I see. So, do you have access? TylerDurden8823 (talk) 15:23, 26 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I do not have easy access, although I'm sure I can get it via interlibrary loan. Going to let other volunteers take a stab at it first. ~ Rob13Talk 23:37, 26 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
A Google search for that exact title (surrounded in double quotes, and regular Google not Google Scholar) returns a pdf file of it and the other papers in the same journal issue as one of the top hits. I'm not sure I should link to it here because it may be a copyright violation, but it worked for me. —David Eppstein (talk) 23:33, 29 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@TylerDurden8823: Pinging you to the above advice; I also won't link that here, but you can Google to find a copy. ~ Rob13Talk 23:36, 29 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I'll give that a try. I attempted to access it through PubMed through my university's access but still came up with nothing. I'd be a little surprised if it were that easy but it's worth a try. TylerDurden8823 (talk) 00:22, 30 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@TylerDurden8823: I was able to get a copy of the first one. Email me. I'll look for the second one too. EvergreenFir (talk) 07:05, 16 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@TylerDurden8823: Do you still need anything in this request? ~ Rob13Talk 22:19, 23 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I tried to reproduce the google search results mentioned above for the Cosmetics article and did not see a free full text PDF available to me. I emailed EvergreenFir a while back but have nothing back in my email so I'm not sure what happened there. I do still need a copy of the second article as well. Thanks! TylerDurden8823 (talk) 05:05, 28 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@TylerDurden8823: I did reply with the first article attached to the email. Did you never receive it? Email me again and/or ping me to let me know either way EvergreenFir (talk) 05:17, 28 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
You're completely right. That was my error. I do see it in my old emails. I must have opened it while I was busy and forgotten it. My apologies for the mistake. TylerDurden8823 (talk) 05:49, 28 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Carol Channing interview in the Orlando Sentinel edit

{{resolved}} I think this is available on newspapers.com, the Orlando Sentinel for November 24, 1978 and an interview with Carol Channing entitled "'Oh, oh, oh, fellas; look at the old girl now, fellas". I want to check the accuracy of this statement "She recalls that playwright Thornton Wilder loved the play so much that he came once a week, and later wrote The Matchmaker, a play based on it." in the article on Channing. The Matchmaker is earlier than Hello Dolly! not the other way round as this statement suggests so I want to see if it's the interview is Channing gets her memories wrong or our interpretation. Nthep (talk) 18:39, 26 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Not in Newspapers.com unless you have the publisher extra level of membership (expensive!), nor is it available in what online databases I have access to due to the old date. This will be available only via microform, probably. ~ Rob13Talk 23:39, 26 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for looking. Nthep (talk) 11:52, 27 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Nthep: You are correct, the statement you're checking misinterprets the source. See the imperfect, but easily understood, OCR text at: https://www.newspapers.com/newspage/225773806/. --Worldbruce (talk) 14:17, 23 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Worldbruce: thanks for that but as I don't have a newspapers.com subscription I cannot see a large enough copy to read the content. Could you screenshot the relevant paragraph for me? Nthep (talk) 22:18, 23 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Nthep: This isn't available on Newspapers.com unless you have the Publisher Extra level of membership (very expensive, not available via Wikipedia Library). What Worldbruce was referring to was the OCR text. Look below the image of the page and you'll see a box of (imperfectly) machine-transcribed text. It won't be perfect/good for quoting, but it will let you read enough to figure out the general facts of the article. ~ Rob13Talk 22:21, 23 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Nthep, is this resolved? BlackcurrantTea (talk) 04:32, 31 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Lotus Sutra edit

For the Lotus Sutra article I need the "Lotus Sutra" entry in: Jonathan Silk, Oskar von Hinüber, Vincent Eltschinger (eds.) (2015). Brill's Encyclopedia of Buddhism, Volume 1: Literature and Languages. Leiden: Brill. ISBN 9789004283435, OCLC 929537607 . Unfortunately I can not specify the page numbers but [9] shows that a "Lotus Sutra" entry exists. The source would be very helpful in evaluating due weight. BU Rob13, Andrew Gray sent me a paper which may be a later expansion of what's in the supplement. I think I can probably use that if I have to; I'm guessing that the citation I saw was to the first reference to the technique, so a later paper would probably be fine. If it's easy to get I would appreciate looking at it, but if not, don't worry about it. Thanks. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 16:58, 30 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Mike Christie: Sent what was available. Apparently the Spring Meeting supplement just has information about the meeting and abstracts of the papers presented, not full copies, so this may not be useful to you. Thanks Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi, I've got MacGregor's paper and have used it on Wikipedia. He cites Sellar's paper several times throughout it. Establishment of the Pakistan School in Tehran - Looking for Tehran Times article edit

Please see the Tehran Times Oct. 18, 1964 if there is an article about the Pakistan School of Tehran

Thanks, --WhisperToMe (talk) 06:02, 8 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

WhisperToMe: 1984, perhaps? The paper didn't exist in 1964. BlackcurrantTea (talk) 06:51, 8 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The person who wrote the segment stated it was 1964. It's possible there was a different paper with the same name, or 1984 is the correct date? WhisperToMe (talk) 15:14, 9 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
WhisperToMe, I was guessing at the most likely typo. The original editor may have gotten the 1964 date from the school's own history page - or the school may have gotten it from Wikipedia.

The only pre-Revolutionary, English-language newspapers in Teheran I've found on Worldcat are The Teheran Journal and Kaysan International (which may have been a magazine). It's entirely possible that there were others, and one may have been called The Tehran Times, or the school may be translating the title and quote from a paper in Persian or another language. Sorry, not very helpful, I know. BlackcurrantTea (talk) 08:45, 10 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the info! If somebody does find an article from any of those papers about the establishment of the Pakistan school, that would be helpful WhisperToMe (talk) 11:32, 10 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@WhisperToMe: Since we know the source didn't exist at the date you're seeking, I'm closing this. If you'd like anyone to check other particular sources, feel free to open a new request, but it seems clear the original source requested doesn't exist. ~ Rob13Talk 23:32, 1 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Book about the standardization of Arabic script for some African languages edit

I'm looking for the full version of the book Mohamed Chtatou, "Using Arabic script in writing the languages of the peoples of Muslim Africa", 1992 ([13] or [14]). (I have found only a handful of pictures from this book.) --صلاح الأوكراني (talk) 14:38, 26 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@صلاح الأوكراني: For legal reasons, we cannot provide full scans of books. Doing so would likely be copyright infringement. ~ Rob13Talk 22:41, 26 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Rob13Talk, as I know this book contains text, tables and maps. In case of scanning only tables (with some explanatory text) it will be copyright infringement or not? --صلاح الأوكراني (talk) 10:18, 27 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@صلاح الأوكراني: That depends on many factors. How many tables are there/how extensive are they? What are you going to be using them for? ~ Rob13Talk 17:58, 27 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Rob13Talk, the number of tables is about 15. The size of each table is small (you can see examples of tables № I, IV, V, VII, XI in the Unicode proposal (pages 5 to 12)). Information from those tables will be used for expanding articles about African languages. --صلاح الأوكراني (talk) 18:57, 27 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
صلاح الأوكراني, I have access to this book. It's actually a rather small booklet and the tables make up a substantial part of the content, so I won't be able to scan all of them. If you have in mind a more specific topic (e.g. a given language), let me know and I can send you the relevant tables. – Uanfala (talk) 20:43, 18 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

An Indigenous Peoples’ History of the United States by Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz edit

I'm currently improving an article, and it's looking like this book may have some more support for a particular etymology of the word "Redskin". There's a brief excerpt that claims the relevant chapter is Chapter Four: Bloody Footprints. I've found the Intro and Chapter 8 online,[15] but no Chapter 4.

Access to the whole book would be perfect, in case the etymology is discussed in other chapters as well. However, I've read the rubric at the top of this page, so I know that's massively unlikely. Would it be possible to get access to Chapter 4?

Fake reference problem edit

I recently came across several Wikipedia articles containing this particular sentence "Chatahurdi compilation of the Mahabharat". I am not familiar with this version of Mahabharat and I cant find any supporting documents to this version in internet. Can anyone please provide any information regarding this particular version. Access to the whole book would be perfect --Vijays1127 08:11, 5 June 2017 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vijays1127 (talkcontribs)

@Vijays1127: I've been able to find no reference to Chatahurdi in any library database or WorldCat. Further, every mention of it on Wikipedia appears to have been added by Pinkfloyd11. I would treat this as sneaky vandalism and remove on sight until a reference is provided. ~ Rob13Talk 23:08, 5 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Because in India, no name is spelled the same way. Here is the wikipedia article on him: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neelakantha_Chaturdhara. Here is the analysis/compilation he is known for:https://books.google.com/books/about/Bh%C4%81ratabh%C4%81vad%C4%ABpa.html?id=52trGwAACAAJ where he traveled India and compiled all the different versions of the Mahabharat into a single version, adding his own flourishes and analysis around the way. The Ganguli translation of the Mahabharat is heavily influenced by this analysis according to the introduction of the translation itself (http://www.sacred-texts.com/hin/m01/m01001.htm).Pinkfloyd11 (talk) 23:35, 5 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Pinkfloyd11 Its so funny that you also edited Neelakantha_Chaturdhara and made "necessary adjustments". I don't trust you. Nobody else can validate, give good reference about what you are saying about Neelakantha_Chaturdhara & his version of Mahabharat even this WP:RS guys. I also found many cases of your fake reference. Almost all references you added is shady.Vijays1127 00:57, 6 June 2017 (UTC)
@Vijays1127 You don't trust me? Well I don't trust you, Arjunkrishna. This is the shtick you always do; POV pushing, claiming that your version of the story is the only version of the story, and deleting any content you don't like saying it is "vandalism" or has no references. Look at the changes I made to the Chaturdhara page...I took out unsourced comments, plagiarized sections of references (which are against Wikipedia's policies, and cleaned up the poor English and repetitiveness in the article.Pinkfloyd11 (talk) 03:13, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Pinkfloyd11 First of all I have no idea who you are accusing . You added fake contents and fake references but when I pointed out you blame me? That's why I asked WP:RS and Teahouse. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Resource Exchange/Resource Request guys can't find "anything" about your reference. They are saying and I quote "Further, every mention of it on Wikipedia appears to have been added by Pinkfloyd11. I would treat this as sneaky vandalism and remove on sight until a reference is provided".

They said it's vandalism and should be removed on sight. I saw your edits on Neelakantha_Chaturdhara. You removed most of the criticism about Neelakantha Chaturdhara . Second there is no resource or reference material about Neelakantha Chaturdhara edition of Mahabharat. Then how can you add quoting "Neelakantha Chaturdhara or Chatahurdi compilation of the Mahabharat". If there is any such resource then WP:RS would have it. But they don't.

You added everywhere "Chatahurdi compilation of the Mahabharat" not Neelakantha Chaturdhara edition of Mahabharat . Both are different for a layman.Even if there is any resources as you say how can we know it as reliable and can be used in Wikipedia. Vijays1127 03:56, 6 June 2017 (UTC)

Quit it, both of you. Go point fingers elsewhere. For what it's worth, my resource search was based on a misspelled name. Now that I have the correct name, this appears to be the commentary in question, and I would not treat it as vandalism. ~ Rob13Talk 04:45, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Delo Naroda, No. 5 edit

In this article by Joseph Stalin, there is a reference to a publication called Delo Naroda, No. 5: https://www.marxists.org/reference/archive/stalin/works/1917/03/28.htm

In this publication, there is an article called "Russia—a Union of Regions" (“Россия – союз областей”). Basically, I would like to get access to this entire article--in either English or Russian--so that I could use it to improve this Wikipedia article: National delimitation in the Soviet Union.

Anyway, does anyone have access to this specific article? Futurist110 (talk) 02:32, 11 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It should be reprinted in Stalin's Works Volume 3: March-October 1917 OCLC 3667492, OCLC 610199030 or [16]. LeadSongDog come howl! 16:01, 11 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Here is Stalin's Works, Volume 3: https://www.marxists.org/reference/archive/stalin/works/collected/volume3/index.htm . However, where exactly--if anywhere--inside of it is this article located? After all, Joseph Stalin wasn't a member of the Socialist Revolutionary Party, and Delo Naroda was a Socialist Revolutionary--not Bolshevik--publication. Futurist110 (talk) 16:50, 11 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, perhaps I misread your request. You're looking for issue No. 5 of the serial Delo Naroda? or Россия – союз областей from within it? LeadSongDog come howl! 22:20, 11 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that is correct. Basically, I specifically want that article--either separately or as a part of Delo Naroda, No. 5. Futurist110 (talk) 22:59, 11 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@KAVEBEAR: That's a bit too high a percentage of the text for me to fulfill without more information. In order to be fair use, this must be purely for scholarly work and the minimum amount necessary for scholarly work (even if that minimum is a large percentage). Based on many past requests and your history on site, I'm certainly convinced this is purely for scholarly work, but could you make a more clear/detailed case that this is the minimum amount necessary? (e.g. saying exactly how each page range will help, or if you're working on multiple pages, which range is for which page). ~ Rob13Talk 16:38, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@BU Rob13: Pages 21. 34, 61–96 is mainly used for Kamehameha III and his palaces and lifetime corresponding to why the court was moved to Honolulu and the development of the capital at that time. Based on my past snippet looks for other article it also gives insight into the lifetime of the other royals during this period. Kaniakapupu and Iolani were build around the same time especially the Chief's Children's School alumni. And then information about the Paulet incident and Honolulu Fort (an article I am going to create) for 41-61. I added 118–148 because I didn't know if there was any information about the Kamehameha era palace in this section or not but that is less needed and can be removed to make the request shorter.--KAVEBEAR (talk) 17:15, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
