I'm using the gbooks preview of this as a ref in a draft article for air stripline but I can't get the author of chapter 16. That should be on page 543 (the chapter title page) but that is not available on preview. A couple of pages from Essential Solitude edit

  Resolved

I would like a scan of a couple of pages of Essential Solitude: The Letters of H.P. Lovecraft and August Derleth (Hippocampus Books, 2008). I can see a quote on Google Books as follows: "Just had word of the revival of Astounding Stories (as a largely weird magazine) by Street & Smith. That sounds good! .... I knew that someone had bought it, one T. R. Foley, for $100.00 from the defunct Clayton outfit. He also bought Clues; this..." It seems to be on page 600; I would like enough surrounding information to be able to cite the source -- who wrote the letter and when.

This is for Astounding Stories, to include the information about Foley and the price of the sale, which I haven't seen in any other source. Thanks -- Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 23:52, 27 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sputnik magazine, July 1970 edit

I'm trying to find a copy of Sputnik, July 1970. It was a Soviet magazine similar to Reader's Digest, and was published by Novosti. Apparently it was published in a few languages; the English copy would be preferred, but any of them would be great.

It's only required for the article in it on the Spaceship Moon theory (not my word!). Apparently this article was titled "IS THE MOON THE CREATION OF INTELLIGENCE?" and was by Mikhail Vasin and Alexander Shcherbakov. We currently have an apparent copy of it hosted on a fringe site,[8] but obviously we can't treat that copy as reliable.

It's for use in Spaceship Moon Theory article. Cheers, Bromley86 (talk) 22:53, 14 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like the only worldcat libraries that hold the issue are Cornell and NYU. --Worldbruce (talk) 03:00, 18 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The title of that magazine is short, so the ISSN number 0131-8748 may help searching the catalogs. I couldn't find any copies of issues that old (year 1970) in online catalogs though. – b_jonas 14:40, 9 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The links above indicate that Cornell holds 1968-1977 and NYU holds 1967-1988, but no other worldcat library holds the issue. Many small or specialized libraries, such as those within museums, aren't on worldcat; so if someone knows a "Museum of Soviet Culture", or some such, that might be worth checking. Issues are occasionally offered on eBay, but I haven't seen July 1970 for sale. --Worldbruce (talk) 16:49, 9 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Request for page number of 2007 Beaufort Gazette article edit

{{Resolved}} A long time ago, I referenced a story from The Beaufort Gazette in 2007 Indy Japan 300, which I read via Google News. The story is titled "Kanaan bides time before earning win", and it ran on April 22, 2007, the day after the race. It was eventually pulled from Google News, before I got into the habit of including page numbers for Google News cites. While the citation is still verifiable, I know that it would be best to include the page number(s), which I cannot do as my former college's library does not have this South Carolina paper in any of its databases. If any of you can access archives for this paper, a page number for this article would be greatly appreciated; I don't need a copy of the article e-mailed, so hopefully this will be a little easier to action than most of your usual requests appear to be. Thanks for any help that you can provide. Giants2008 (Talk) 01:26, 30 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Giants2008: The article was on page 6B, see [9]. Arguably more important than setting the page number would be setting |agency=Associated Press. With that knowledge, readers can find the identical (or nearly identical) full text of the story in many other newspapers, even though headlines may vary. --Worldbruce (talk) 00:32, 9 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Awesome! I never even thought to check archive.is. Thanks for finding that. It surprises me that I didn't previously mention the AP in the cite, since I always try to add that information, but it's in the reference now along with the page number. h-parameters edit

{{Resolved}}

  • I don't have a full cite, only a snippet, its from Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, 1954, and the page I'm looking at is 725.

This came up concerning a proto article I have in sandbox for transfer function matrix (not yet posted). It appears to have some information on the history of the h-parameters (although it might not name them as such) and might be useful for that page also. SpinningSpark 19:05, 24 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Spinningspark: I'm not sure of the journal name because it seems the journal changed it's name in 1951. Could I see the snippet you currently have? --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 19:39, 24 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, here is the snippet [10], but the relevant text is not visible there, I could only see it in these search results. Thanks for looking. SpinningSpark 19:46, 24 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Spinningspark: Based on the date and page, I think it could be: Lord, Harold W. (January 1954). "The influence of magnetic amplifier circuitry upon the operating hysteresis loops". Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, Part I: Communication and Electronics. 72 (6): 721–728. doi:10.1109/TCE.1954.6372073. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 19:39, 24 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I was about to say when you edit conflicted me that the very blurry document image appears to be titled Communications and Electronics so that is likely it. Can you get me a copy? SpinningSpark 19:59, 24 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I don't have access to IEEE but hopefully someone else who does can help you. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 00:06, 25 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Spinningspark: and @MrLinkinPark333: [11] OhanaUnitedTalk page 22:08, 31 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Sadly, that is not the right article, it is very different from the snippet. In retrospect, the title was not likely, I was being too hopeful. Here is another snippet [12] from gbooks that appears to be exactly the same article, but this one says it's in volumes 11-16. SpinningSpark 22:27, 31 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
That snippet is too little to work with. OhanaUnitedTalk page 23:56, 31 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I scrolled down the bottom of the page from your first link, I see: Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers Volume 73, Issue 1 of Transactions. The date on the cover also says March 1954. The GBooks could be a compilation of articles, not limited to Transactions. March 1954 is here. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 00:35, 1 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@OhanaUnited: After some research, I think the citation is,
  • "Proposed Methods of Testing Transistors", Joint AIEE-I.R.E. Committee Report, Communications and Electronics, January 1955, pp. 725-740.
It is listed in Communication and Electronics Index for 1954 on IEEEXplore, third item down, but I can't find a link to the actual article. SpinningSpark 00:54, 1 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, got no access to that. OhanaUnitedTalk page 01:14, 1 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • @OhanaUnited: This IEEEXplore search comes up with two papers (possibly the same paper in different publications) that appear to be the finalised version of the proposal from my snippets. I would assume that these also have the information I seek. Thanks for your efforts so far. SpinningSpark 13:37, 1 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Spinningspark: email me for copies of the two papers that contain the text "In previous literature these have been referred to as the series-parallel parameters, but a recent paper coined the name ... Health & Place article on community gardens edit

{{resolved}}

Hi. I'm currently doing research on community gardens and how they improve mental health. I would like to request access to this journal article:

  • Armstrong, Donna (January 2001). "A Survey of Community Gardens in Upstate New York: Implications for Health Promotion and Community Development". Health & Place. 6 (4): 319–27. doi: 10.1016/S1353-8292(00)00013-7

This article is for my personal research, but since it's also referenced in Urban agriculture, I would like to see if there is any information about mental health in this article that can be added to the Wiki article as well. Thanks! --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 02:36, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Need Turner for mangrove swallow edit

I need pages 106 through 108 (possibly 109, if it has information on the white-rumped swallow) to improve the white-rumped swallow. Although pages 106 and 107 are available, it does not provide the full account. It would be nice to get all of the information in one place, but I need 108 and possibly 109 at minimum. Middle East Contemporary Survey edit

{{resolved}}

Not sure which one of those has the stuff that I need (notice the different publishers), but I assume it's the first one.

I'm currently working on a draft article about the 1988-1990 war between Amal and Hezbollah during the final stages of the Lebanese Civil War. I have access to all the other relevant Middle East Contemporary Survey material, given that they are available on Google Books. The one about the year 1989, however, isn't available. And it looks like it was released by some publishing house other than The Moshe Dayan Center, which appears to have bypassed this year. Also, the one about the year 1990 seems to have some pages missing in its Google Books preview, and they probably contain valuable stuff. When it comes to the MECS series, I'm mainly interested in their Lebanon chapters. I would really, really appreciate it if someone could help me out here. The criers are rushing about collecting dogs and pigs for a luau, and the ceaseless dancing continues. • Basically all of them are JSTOR article with the exception of the first one.--KAVEBEAR (talk) 21:09, 29 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • @KAVEBEAR: Yeah, but JSTOR access isn't really one database. My university has some through JSTOR, but not many; lots of them are in the more obscure JSTOR databases that most universities won't have. My university has most of these in book form, though. I'm sending three your way now. Two will be scanned out of storage in a couple days. I'll scan five myself at the library on Monday. The only one I can't currently access is the second bullet point, so if anyone wants to grab that one, feel free. If it's not done in ~2 weeks, ping me. It's currently checked out at my institution, and I hate to recall a book when it can be avoided. ~ Rob13Talk 21:24, 29 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • BU Rob13I removed two that I do not need anymore (Coffman and Walker) and placed Done over the ones you sent me.--KAVEBEAR (talk) 21:52, 29 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
KAVEBEAR I can grab a physical copy of the second item, but like BU Rob13, my JSTOR subscription via my library doesn't cover the books (for some reason). --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 22:45, 29 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hawaiian Church Monthly Messenger edit

Are there online version of these sources: Hawaiian Church Monthly Messenger, I ( 1873), p. 96 and Hawaiian Church Monthly Messenger, May 1, 1874, inside front cover?--KAVEBEAR (talk) 21:21, 1 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@KAVEBEAR: Online is a near-definite no. It's not listed in WorldCat, which usually means it won't be digital. I've been unable to find this manually at any of the ~70 universities whose catalogs I can easily access. I suspect your best bet would be a university in Hawaii. I checked the University of Hawaii library system, and no luck there. ~ Rob13Talk 18:18, 7 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Representative Committee of Delegates of the Hawaiian People to present a memorial to Hon. James H. Blount, praying for the restoration of the monarchy under Queen Liliuokalani edit

{{resolved}}

This is a request for an image resource from the Library of Congress. Does anyone have access to the Library of Congress in person or know of a way to get a larger version of this image http://www.loc.gov/pictures/item/89709348/ of the "Representative Committee of Delegates of the Hawaiian People to present a memorial to Hon. James H. Blount, praying for the restoration of the monarchy under Queen Liliuokalani". In my opinion, the online TIFF version is still way too small to discern the faces of the individual assembled there. This will be used in multiple articles including biographies of the nineteen assembled individuals. --KAVEBEAR (talk) 07:21, 7 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
