Any clue where Gannett newspaper archives can be located?

{{Resolved}}

Hi folks, this source went dead a little while ago: Campion, Emily (January 31, 2014). "West Lafayette native to be atop Thunder at Super Bowl". Lafayette Journal and Courier. Retrieved January 31, 2014. Basically, I can't even find a paywall any more, the "archives" link at the main page just loops back to the main page, the article won't appear in a search at all and the 404 offers no clues. Apparently Gannett newspapers archive articles offsite after two years, and this disappearing archive problem appears to be happening to several of the newspapers that are, like this one, in the Gannett chain. This article sources a fairly important biographical tidbit in Thunder (horse), which is currently at FAC, where deadlinks are a real problem. I've tried to source the material independently elsewhere, and am not finding enough sources to cover it all. Anyone who can shoot me a link to the paywall that carries this article will have my gratitude, thanks! --Montanabw(talk) 01:00, 27 February 2016 (UTC)

@Montanabw: I haven't found that exact article, but I found one from the same author about Thunder on Feb 1st, 2014. Paywall is here.
I think it's the same article, only a day later, may have had an update. Will fix. Thank you SO much! Montanabw(talk) 02:58, 28 February 2016 (UTC)
@Montanabw: I'll keep this request open just in case someone can access the original article and compare it to the other article. If not, would you like this request to be marked as resolved? --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 19:05, 28 February 2016 (UTC)

  • Just need lead essay by head curator, Stacy C. Hollander, who reportedly, in widely-covered show on national tour, seeks to reposition "folk art" and "outsider art" in terms of (American) "Self-taught Genius"

The Intellectual Culture of the Copper Eskimos

{{resolved}}

A few days ago I was working on Uvavnuk, improving the biography of a C19 Inuit woman whose poetic work is still being used today. I found my way to the relevant part of the ten-volume work by Arctic explorer Knud Rasmussen, who collected her tale. The text I was reading was raw, with plenty of machine transcription errors, but it served my purpose. Now I can't find it anywhere online: Google Books acknowledges its existence, but I can't see more than occasional snippets. I seem to recall that there is a resource somewhere in Wikipedia that might help me. Specifically, I want to read The Fifth Thule Expedition, especially the volume entitled The Intellectual Culture of the Copper Eskimos. Any ideas? Carbon Caryatid (talk) 23:43, 20 March 2016 (UTC)

There appears to be a download link here, although it looks a lil' fishy in that they want your email address. Still, if you've got a throwaway email address it might be worth a try. The material should certainly be out of copyright by now.-- Elmidae (talk) 15:16, 21 March 2016 (UTC)
Someone in the US might have access to Fra Grønland til Stillehavet, in Danish. The search finds her on p.99. She is also found on p.34 of Across Arctic America; narrative of the Fifth Thule expedition, the abridged 1927 English translation. LeadSongDog come howl! 19:54, 21 March 2016 (UTC)
Thank you to both of the responders. I followed the first link ("Yeareconomistbooks") and agree it looks strange: You've come to the website where you can explore a manual written by the architect of the Intellectual Culture of Copper Eskimos (Thule Expedition, 5th, 1921-1924 : No 9) by Knud J. Rasmussen. This crumb of literature ... is a creation of creativity script. You can procure a plagiarize of the ledger from the tie beneath Intellectual Culture of Copper Eskimos... The things we do for Wikipedia! But even weirder, I went through all the pages of that pdf, and tried various links, but can't find a way to the text of the book I want. As for the second suggestion, alas I don't read Danish, and the Hathi Trust website, of which I'd not heard before, lets me search but not read. So I'm no further forward.
I should say that I'm not looking for further information on Uvavnuk; rather, reading about Uvavnuk has stimulated me to find out more about her context and Rasmussen's journeys. I just want to read the book! And while I could find my way to a printed copy, I'd rather read it onscreen, not least for ease of searching. And finally finally the weirdest and most annoying thing: that I was reading the fulltext only a week ago, a site I must have found through simple googling, and now I can't locate it anywhere, because I didn't bookmark it. Thank you again to Elmidae and LeadSongDog, but I'd welcome any further ways forward. Carbon Caryatid (talk) 21:58, 22 March 2016 (UTC)
Found it at the OpenLibrary. https://openlibrary.org/books/OL6312282M/Intellectual_culture_of_the_Hudson_bay_Eskimos (p.122) enjoy! LeadSongDog come howl! 01:28, 23 March 2016 (UTC)
YES! Thank you! Now I'm off to dogsled across the Arctic Archipelago for a few hours. Carbon Caryatid (talk) 12:29, 25 March 2016 (UTC)
For future reference: this book is the subject of a fascinating digital resource, The Thule Atlas. (Thanks are due to User:CambridgeBayWeather for adding this link to an article on my watchlist.) The project appears to be the initiative of the Kitikmeot Heritage Society; cue Margaret Mead re "a small group of committed citizens" etc. Goodness knows why it didn't show up in the searches several of us were doing a month ago.
