Will it be possible to verify that the following text's source is: Middle East Journal, Vol. 42, No. 2 (Spring, 1988), page=240

"instead of prudently recognizing this reality and accepting the relatively favorable 1939 White Paper, or compromising with the Zionists, the Mufti shifted to a policy of active and futile opposition and rejection. In short, moderation during the Palestine phase and rejection during the exile phase contributed to the ultimate defeat of the Palestinians"

        • User:Al Ameer son: there is nothing about the 1834 revolt on those pages (or earlier), Aqil Agha is first mentioned on p. 182, saying that by the 1850´s he had the power that previously belonged to the al-Madi family (of Ijzim). On p.220 Schölch goes through the diplomatic dispatches from consuls Rogers, Finn, and others about the disturbances in the 1850s. Quoted from Finn, "Stirring times", vol 2, pp. 431 f; Thomson, "The land and the book", pp. 464 f; Rogers, "La vie domistique" (=French version of "Domestic life in Palestine")p. 453. My scanner still don´t work; will try again tomorrow, Huldra (talk) 20:27, 15 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
          • Ok thanks. I can't find much about Aqil's activity during the revolt so if you see anything anywhere please add it to the article. As for the activity mentioned by Scholch on 220, I'll just wait until you scan it or figure out another way to make it available. It looks to be interesting. If someone can help with the following reference, would be great.

Alain Menargues, Les Secrets de la guerre du Liban pp. 469-70

I am interested in what he says about Sayeret Metkal and the Sabra and Shatila camps.

This is for the article: Sabra and Shatila massacre. Kingsindian  11:57, 2 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It's by fr:Alain Ménargues (no English wp article Alain Ménargues yet, hint, hint...). OCLC 55144464 and other editions shows 6 French and 1 Arabic versions from 2004, with about 60 libraries holding copies. OCLC 855334112 shows a 2013 second edition, revised and corrected. same blog source as above
@Kingsindian:
It is written :
Pluto2012 (talk) 10:58, 4 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Pluto2012: If I am not mistaken, you are quoting from page 470. I am intersted in the previous page, the content just before that. The extract cited by NQ confirms what I wanted to see, but since it is just a blog post, I just wanted to check if there was some way I could see the text on the page itself. Thanks for your help, anyway. Kingsindian  11:23, 4 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Kingsindian:

Some requests edit

  Resolved

I have a few requests, and wondering if anyone has access to the following sources and can help:

  • Cunliffe, Marcus (1956) History of the Royal Warwickshire Regiment: 1919-1955

I am looking for information that states what the 14th Battalion was up to between December 1941 and October 1942? Hopefully, it will provide some information that will help clarify the role of the 77th Infantry Division during this period: beach defense/anti-invasion duties etc. It appears the information is on 67, 69, and 71. Only a portion of 67 is available on Googlebooks, but no context is able to be gleaned.

  • Clowes (1956) The York and Lancaster Regiment: Sheffield, O. F. 1919-1953 / Sheffield, O. F. (1930–1956). The York and Lancaster Regiment, 1758–1953 III. Butler & Tanner. OCLC 39831761.

Starting on p. 267 is a chapter on the 11th Battalion. This battalion was part of the 76th Infantry Division during 1942 and 1943, when it was transferred to the 77th Division until July 1944. From what i can see on Googlebooks snippet view, the former is mentioned on p. 269, but little else can be seen. During its time with the 77th, the division changed from a "reserve" training unit to a "holding" division. Does this chapter provide any information that would be useful to either article to expand on the role of these two divisions, especially the "holding" aspect of the 77th?

  • Butler, Lewis William George (1971) The Annals of the King's Royal Rifle Corps, Volume 6

During 1943, the 10th Battalion was assigned to the division. Snippet view does not seem to show anything relevant. Does anyone have access to this source? If so, does anything explain the presumably training nature of the battalions role with the division and the 11th Army Tank Brigade?

@EnigmaMcmxc: I've emailed you pages from The York and Lancaster Regiment which contains the information you are looking for. - NQ (talk) 11:41, 21 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@EnigmaMcmxc: Page 55 of The Annals of the King's Royal Rifle Corps, Volume 6 says When in autumn 1942 the American Army were preparing to move in large numbers into southern England, the Regiment's training activities began to concentrate around York. 1 M.T.B. moved to Strensall Camp, where eventually the 10th Battalion absorbed the staff and role. Fortunately Lt-Col G. E. R. C. Osborne, who had been the Chief Instructor for several years, was available to relieve Lt-Col Campbell and to preserve the continuity. Primary training was conducted at Fulford Barracks, York; with the advent of more detailed testing of entrants, recruits spent a short period badged to a General Training Corps before receiving the coveted black Maltese cross on the red ground. I've emailed you the text surrounding this passage. Aside from this, I couldn't find any mention of the 10th Battalion in this context anywhere else. Hope this helps. - NQ (talk) 12:14, 21 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings. Would anyone have access to this thesis:

Source cited as "the seminal study on the presence of hospitality in the New Testament" by Andrew E Arterbury, Entertaining Angels : Early Christian Hospitality in its Mediterranean Setting (Sheffield : Sheffield Phoenix, 2005), p. 4. Thesis would be very useful to augment latter in several articles on early Christianity. (Arterbury acknowledges, "I will seek not so much to correct Mathews’s work, as to supplement it.")

Economist article on early Chinese map edit

  Resolved

Can any one with a subscription to the Economist access China beat Columbus, perhaps and let me know the date of the map described and the name it gives for the Americas?

I am trying to answer this question on the Reference Desk about early Chinese names for the Americas.

Thank you --184.147.128.46 (talk) 22:32, 7 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The link works for me without a subscription. It says that the map is "a copy, made in 1763, of a map, dated 1418". A larger image of the map is File:1763-1418ChineseMap.jpg. The article doesn't say whether the map gives a name to the Americas; you'll need a Chinese reader to examine it. The article notes that there is controversy over which material on the map is really from 1418 rather than added in 1763. No copy of the alleged original map is known. Chapter from Sketches of Prominent Tennesseans: Containing Biographies and Records of Many of the Families who Have Attained Prominence in Tennessee edit

  Resolved

Hello. Could someone please send me the chapter about J.W. Clapp from Sketches of Prominent Tennesseans: Containing Biographies and Records of Many of the Families who Have Attained Prominence in Tennessee by William S. Speer? I think it starts on page 40. Google Books won't load and the PDFs on archive.org are too blurry and impossible to read. I created an article about his mansion, Oakleigh (Holly Springs, Mississippi), and he served in the Confederate Congress, so I believe he should have an article. Thank you.Zigzig20s (talk) 12:22, 13 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

He's actually got an article at Jeremiah Watkins Clapp. The chapter would still be very useful to expand the page. Thank you.Zigzig20s (talk) 21:00, 14 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Try again with Google Books Advanced Book Search. Although Google Books uses a 2003 reprint and does not provide the entire book (unless you want to buy it), it does make available pp. 40 - 41, which are the pages for the article about Clapp. John M Baker (talk) 15:24, 16 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It won't give me any results with the advanced book search (unless I am doing this the wrong way).Zigzig20s (talk) 15:31, 16 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Need Billboard magazine articles for a specific subject edit

  Resolved

I am currently working on "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom", a 1994 single by Selena. The article is in need of an update but google has a wide gap in their Billboard archives; they have the July 30, 1994 issue and the next available issue is the October 29, 1994 issue (which the song was spending its second week atop the Hot Latin Songs chart). If anyone has the issues where the song is in the article please email them to me. I am specifically looking for when the song officially made its debut on the chart and any reviews of the song prior to October 29 issue. Thanks, jona(talk) 15:20, 19 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

According to Obstetric fistula#Lack of quality maternal healthcare, "In Tanzania, the average cost of an emergency cesarean section is US$135, while the average annual income there is only $115", and the above citation is given, but this seems unlikely given that Tanzania states that the nominal per-capita GDP of Tanzania is $998. The paper was probably talking about the income of some particular region or group. Please email a PDF or quote the relevant section to allow me to clarify this sentence.
