This is a group nomination of all of the "Dist" templates.
Template:Dist ft m (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)
Template:Dist km mile (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)
Template:Dist m ft (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)
Template:Dist m yd (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)
Template:Dist mile km (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)
Template:Dist yd m (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)

These templates are redundant to {{convert}}. However, their functionality falls significantly below that of {{convert}}.

Of particular concern is the automatic linking. All of these templates link both the input and output units to their respective articles, however, WP:OVERLINK states "In general, do not create links to ... common units of measurement". This is especailly problematic if the template is use more than once in an article. The templates could be edited to turn the linking off but a better solution would be to make it optional ... better still, make it such that the input & output units could be linked independantly—{{convert}} does this.

Another concern is the automatic abbreviation. All of these templates abbreviate both the input and output units, however, MOS:CONVERSIONS states "In the main text, spell out the main units and use unit symbols or abbreviations for conversions in parentheses". Again, the templates could be edited to spell out the input unit but there are times when it should be abbreviated (e.g. in infoboxes). Furthermore, it's not a simple matter of spell-out verses abbreviate, allowance must be made for adjective forms. {{Convert}} does all of this.

These templates were created as a set of alternatives {{length conversion}}. Like {{convert}} at the time, {{length conversion}} was having template limit problems. {{Convert}} was overhauled. {{Length conversion}} is up for deletion.

The solution to {{length conversion}}'s problems was the creation of the "Dist" templates. This solution never did gain a lot of popularity. Those few transclusions the "Dist" template did have were suffering from the problems mentioned above. Another problem I found with many of the transclusions was the use of the "Dist" templates' default rounding—rounding to the nearest whole number, which was often too much or too little precision. {{Convert}}, on the other hand, uses a default rounding which is dependant on the precision of the input value. I've therefore switched them over to {{convert}}. The only remaining transclusions are on the templates themselves & on their category page.

This nomination naturally includes the category itself (again) since empty categorys are speedily deleted.

Template:WikiProject Food and Drink/Foodservice taskforce (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)

Tagged for speedy deletion by Jerem43 (talk contribs count) with the following reason: "because this template has been incorporated to the main project template, is no longer needed." I removed the speedy tag because it was transcluding to many talk pages and therefore adding those talk pages to Category:Candidates_for_speedy_deletion. • Comment:

The transclusions should have been eliminated as part of a retagging project today. The Foodservice task force (Which I pretty much am running) had a bot putting the newly modified {{WPFOOD}} template in place and it was supposed to be deleting the older {{WikiProject Food and Drink/Foodservice taskforce}} tag. I will put in a bot request to have them deleted as they were supposed to be during the run today.

The result of the debate was speedily redirected to {{underconstruction}} as an intuitive shortcut. Sceptre (talk) 17:14, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Undercon (talk · history · transclusions · logs · subpages)

Why is this needed, its not in use by any body, but one user. This a redundant substitute to the {{underconstruction}} template.
