Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests

If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct method if you tried to move a page, but you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:..." or "The/This page could not be moved, for the following reason:..."

  • To list a technical request: edit the Uncontroversial technical requests subsection and insert the following code at the bottom of the list, filling in pages and reason:

    {{subst:RMassist|current page title|new title|reason=edit summary for the move}}

    This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page.
  • If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
  • If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page.

@ModernDaySlavery "Concision" is definitely the common name here. See ngrams for example. C F A 💬 13:24, 10 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose per WP:CONCISE. --Ahecht (TALK

@Vycl1994 Per WP:MIDDLENAME, Adding given names, or their abbreviations, merely for disambiguation purposes (if that format of the name is not commonly used to refer to the person) is not advised.. A better disambiguation would be something like (Iowa politician) and (Utah politician) --Ahecht (TALK

The source cited at John D. Shaffer indicates that page is currently at its WP:COMMONNAME title, so I do not see a need for it to be moved to John Shaffer (Iowa politician). Of the cited inline sources, all three mention the Utahn by his full name. However, most sources in the further reading section refer to him as J. Wilson Shaffer. In light of WP:CONCISE: Exceptions exist for biographical articles. For example, given names and family names are usually not omitted or abbreviated for the purposes of concision, perhaps John Shaffer (governor), which is currently a redirect with history, is a better choice. @TatjanaClimate Given that there used to be an article at Flood management that was merged into Flood control, there appears to have been consensus at one time that "control" was the preferred title. I see that there was a brief discussion on the talk page already, and I have gone ahead and converted that to a formal move discussion, which would need to run its course before the page could be moved. --Ahecht (TALK

The current title is wrong because it is in plural form, so we can remove the "s". But both words do not need to be capitalized; see Digital rhetoric or Contrastive rhetoric among many other precedents. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 12:48, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, right. JacktheBrown (talk) 20:18, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Jkasutoro: The bracketed dab seems to be the standardised dab if you looked through Category:Mountains_of_Japan_by_prefecture. I have reverted your move back to the bracketed version as it is a mispelling as well. Do open a move discussion if you wish to update the disambiguator for all mountain dabs. – robertsky (talk) 09:34, 15 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Paulie302 Not really a common sense move. To me, as someone who works in the fringe of media marketing, OMD is OMD Worldwide. – robertsky (talk) 10:06, 15 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
