The State Library of Queensland is partnering with Wikimedia Australia to find ways the State Library can add authoritative content to Wikipedia and encouraging Queensland Public Libraries to do the same. The common aim is to get Queensland communities to share their places, people and stories with the world through the Wikimedia projects.

Past activities

The partnership started in 2010 with a 50,000 image donation (see commons:Commons:State Library of Queensland).

From 2011 to 2014, the partnership expanded to provide Wikipedia edit training in Brisbane and regional Queensland (see Wikipedia Edit Training for more details).

In 2013, State Library of Queensland established one of its Digital Pitch-In projects (a program for digital volunteers) to transcribe SLQ documents hosted on Wikisource (see Wikisource:WikiProject SLQ).

In 2014, the State Library of Queensland worked with Golf Queensland to celebrate its centenary; this included adding more Wikipedia content on golf in Queensland. See the blog post.

In 2016, the State Library of Queensland had a Wikipedian-in-Residence program focussing on the commemoration of the centenary of World War I with particular emphasis on the home front (see First World War Wikipedian in Residence).

In 2017, the State Library of Queensland contributed over 1000 citations as part of the Wikipedia Library 1Lib1Ref campaign. See their blog posts #1 and #2 and tweets.

In 2017, the State Library of Queensland established the QWiki Club on behalf of the Queensland GLAM sector.
