Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Japan

This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Japan. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion
Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
  1. Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
  2. You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Japan|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
Removing a closed AfD discussion
Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
Other types of discussions
You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Japan. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
Further information
For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

This list is also part of the larger list of deletion debates related to Asia.

This lacks WP:SIGCOV even the article knows it limited information has surfaced online. Oricon yield no result, Natalie yield no result, even the Japanese article has one source, the only thing I could find that is RS is from the Media Arts Database Warm Regards, Miminity (talk) (contribs) 06:12, 2 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The issue with developing these articles would be our inability to access archives which would have information about an anime series from 50 years ago. Hard to imagine that Pinch and Punch, a series with 156 episodes airing on a national TV channel, wouldn't be notable with access to the correct archives. If someone is interested, perhaps Fuji or the National Film Archive of Japan can help? I would personally either keep or merge the articles at a minimum. Requesting on behalf of and in conjunction with RossEvans19: does not meet WP:ATHLETE: no secondary coverage. Only played in lower leagues for a couple years. There's also nothing in the article on the Japanese Wikipedia that could be used to support. Dan 23:15, 1 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The only source is a dead link. The article was created when Wikipedia was growing rapidly and had different standards. Private universities must now show evidence of passing WP:NCORP. I searched, albeit in English, for references and failed to find suitable ones. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 19:36, 1 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Keep per Japanese sources. Nominating a Japanese article for deletion without first doing a WP:BEFORE search for Japanese language sources per WP:NOENG isn't great form :( DCsansei (talk) 07:33, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Refs are clickbait and profiles. Potentially notable but currently fails WP:SIGCOV. scope_creepTalk 09:26, 1 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

How is it a clear pass? Where is the coverage that shows that and confirms WP:V and i'm not talking about clickbait or profiles. scope_creepTalk 14:05, 1 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Mushy Yank: Do you have three reference per WP:THREE that shows the actor is notable? scope_creepTalk 14:08, 1 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
WP:3 is an essay. WP:NACTOR, however, is a guideline. She passes easily wih multiple significant roles in notable productions.
As for WP:V, you have for example https://www.pep.ph/news/local/175027/kazel-kinouchi-abot-kamay-na-pangarap-a745-20230806
https://www.cosmo.ph/entertainment/kazel-kinouchi-cosmo-up-close-july-2024-a2534-20240704-lfrm
https://www.theartistree.fm/entertainment/258250/kazel-kinouchi-before-and-after-a-journey-of-transformation/ https://www.spieltimes.com/news/who-is-kazel-kinouchi-actress-linked-to-richard-gutierrez-denies-romance-rumors/ and, most of all, coverage about the productions in which she has played significant roles (including main cast/lead roles).
The torrent of coverage (including in reliable media outlets) about her private life is also a strong indication of notability. -My, oh my! (Mushy Yank) 15:16, 1 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Mushy Yank: As an aside. WP:THREE is consensus policy since the summer when it was agreed during an RFA that is valid method to prove and Afd nomination notable. I wasn't sure about the subject. However, those are good refs. Perhaps you could update the article with them? scope_creepTalk 20:38, 1 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I could. -My, oh my! (Mushy Yank) 21:04, 1 September 2024 (UTC) Just did.  Done-My, oh my! (Mushy Yank) 21:23, 1 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Fails GNG. Whilst it looks like a lot of sources, most of these are used to confirm previous ambassadors. LibStar (talk) 00:47, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Comment: can you confirm what kind of WP:BEFORE search you conducted and how you went about identifying and assessing any Ukrainian and Japanese language sources as part of that? DCsansei (talk) 16:03, 1 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Relisting comment: Is there additional assessment of the newly added sources? And does LibStar's original nomination still stand? If not, we can close this, but if so we can continue to discuss whether this article meets the general notability guidelines
Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, Malinaccier (talk) 01:03, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Keep - I've added a few sources which should take this mission over the GNG and see plenty more. Appears that there was no WP:BEFORE search including Japanese sources. I'm not competent in Ukranian but my guess is that there would be additional sources found if a WP:BEFORE was done including Ukranian sources. DCsansei (talk) 07:25, 3 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Comment on the talk pages of the articles, not here. If you agree with the proposed deletion, you don't have to do anything. If you think the article merits keeping, then remove the {{prod}} template and make an effort to improve the article so that it clearly meets the notability and verifiability criteria.
