Pacific Meridian

edit

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Pacific Meridian, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www.viff.vl.ru/en/content/?s=13. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. Speedy deletion nomination of Pacific meridian filmfestival

edit

A tag has been placed on Pacific meridian filmfestival, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam as well as Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Proposed deletion of Pacific Meridian (film festival)

edit

The article Pacific Meridian (film festival) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Most (all?) of the article is taken verbatim from the festival and IFF websites. Much of it is unambiguous advertising. There are no references.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Orphaned non-free image File:Pacific meridian logo.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Pacific meridian logo.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. J Milburn (talk) 14:20, 6 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Re: Что ебешь?...

привет, Роман

It has taken me a few days to reply to the note you left on my talk page, because I had asked the administrator (I am not an admin) who actually deleted your article to send me a copy of it, for me to reference in my reply. Unfortunately, just as soon as he put it into my user space, a bot that looks for copyright violations erased it on the basis of its similarity to the film-festival website. And, of course, that is part of the reason why I recommended the article for deletion.

Yes, I can see that you did translate the article from ru:Меридианы Тихого. However, we have to live with the rules of English Wikipedia, not Russian, with respect to copyright violations.

Notwithstanding all of this, my chief problem with your article was that it looked very much like a brochure from the film festival, rather than an objective encyclopedic article. The other problem, which would not have been enough for me to recommend deletion for that alone, is that you have not established notability. I absolutely believe that the film festival is notable and important, but that is not the criterion that Wikipedia uses. You must demonstrate the notability by using independent, well established sources, such as newspaper or magazine articles, for the material you write. It is acceptable for these sources to be in the Russian language if you cannot find what you need in English. The film-festival web site is not an independent source. For more about this, please see Wikipedia:Notability.

The main reason why I did not e-mail you, is that the established way of communicating with other Wikipedia editors is through their talk pages. Actually, I cannot think of any way I could find out what your e-mail address is. The notification of proposed deletion was posted on your talk page. The point is, if you want to defend what you write here, you need to log back in and check both your article and your user talk page.

As I said, I think the film-festival and the article about it are important. If you want to re-write it, addressing the concerns that I have outlined, I think it would be very likely to survive.

I would like to think of you as a friend and colleague. "What-the-fuck" messages, demanding that I immediately do something that I don't even have the power to do, do not foster that kind of collegiality. I suspect that, when Shimeru got that same message, he or she decided that replying to you would not be a good use of time. I decided to make that investment, because you are obviously a good writer, and you could be a valuable contributor to Wikipedia, if you work with, rather than against, your collaborators, the other Wikipedia editors.

Мир вам,
Петр Шастейн (Peter Chastain)

P.S. From pictures I have seen, Vladivostok looks beautiful. I would like to visit some day.
