This herculean effort from Prince of Thieves is a very different animal from the old link soup. On the one hand, there's a lot more organization that makes it easier to read. On the other hand, it's maybe a bit too organized, with a lot of clicking needed to see the article titles. I have a couple ideas to streamline things:

  • Use only the lowest-level navbox on each song article. I think you hinted at something similar in the TfD, I think.
  • Make the collection templates (e.g. Template:Child Ballads (1860)) the lowest level, and drop the volume templates (e.g. Template:Child Ballads volume 1 (1860)). Volumes would work well as the navbox groups. As of now, the numbers within the volumes are the navbox groups, which makes for a nicely fleshed out table of contents for each volume, but is probably more information than is required.
  • Drop Template:Child Ballads (numbered). There's enough content for this navbox that we shouldn't need to list it a second time, and readers can already use List of Child Ballads to look up by number.

  • Thanks Ibadibam. I probably underestimated the size of the end result. I personally think there is great merit to a comprehensive index of all the Child Ballads, however it isn't very usable on it's own, so I think I would be best to display the most relevant part of the navbox first based on parameters calling it (or something), roughly as below.
