Charles Leatherland, Baron Leatherland

edit

You recently added a speedy deletion tag to the article Charles Leatherland, Baron Leatherland. As a baron, he would have been a member of the House of Lords, and any member or former member of a national or sub-national legislature or parliament is considered notable, even if the article about the person is just a stub. Please see Wikipedia:Notability_(people)#Politicians for more information about notability. Eastmain (talkcontribs) 01:35, 15 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Speedy Deletion of Terry de Havilland

edit

Hi Cool Angel Some time ago I began a page about Terry de Havilland. Then I returned and added more facts, corroborated by a article in Vogue magazine which had been previously used as a reference. I thought I had re-phrased those facts in my own words but now the hole page has been marked for speedy deletion. Deletion of the entire article seems extremely heavy-handed. When I resubmitted the original article it too was rejected. Please could you be an Angel and explain to me how I can retrieve the work I have done? And how best to proceed with adding more detail to the article. Thanks for your help. Electr007 (talk) 08:39, 6 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

speedy deletion

edit

Please learn the rules before you mark articles for deletion. As reviewing administrator, I have been removing a number of your inappropriate tags from articles, as have other administrators also.

Speedy deletion is for articles that unquestionably meet the stated criteria, and the criteria are interpreted narrowly. CSD a7, no indication of importance, is only for articles that give no indication at all why the subject is important, and can only be used for articles and people, groups, companies and web content, not subjects in general

Anti-Texas sentiment is not about one of the subjects that A7 can be used for, though it is an article that needs much improvement.

Madge Bradley] is assert to be San Diego's first female judge. This is certainly an indication of plausible importance, enough to defeat speedy deletion, and probably enough to meet the much more demanding criterion of notability, if there are adequate references. The style of the article however indicates it might well be a copyvio, and this will need to be checked and corrected--copyvio is a much more serious thing than lack of importance and needs to be looked at when ever an article is written like a press release, either in style or format. Articles about living people also must have at least one references providing substantial coverage from 3rd party independent published reliable sources, print or online, but not blogs or press releases, or material derived from press releases. If not , they are to be nominated for deletion by the WP:BLP PROD process.

Sloppy Joe's Bar, Havana i asserted to be the original of the bar in a very well known movie; this is an indication of plausible importance, and might even meet WP:Notability. But the article was unreferenced , and should have been tagged as such.

Dance Moms Miami is about a contest, and probably does not fall under A7, and in any case indicates some importance. But it is a pure advertisement, and I deleted it as such, using speedy criterion CSD G11, entirely promotional article.

Colomet was a page blanked by the original author. It should have been marked for deletion as such , G7, not as a very short article with no context. It is necessary to look at the article history before tagging.

List of best-selling music artists of studio albums should have been marked for deletion as duplicating other articles in Wikipedia, not merely marked as unreferenced.

The purpose of speedy deletion is to clear out the hopeless junk, of which there is a great deal--I myself have deleted over 10,000 since becoming an admin. In order to keep from drifting towards excessive deletion under the flow of hopeless submitted articles, I make it a point to reread WP:CSD#A7 and WP:Deletion policy every once in a while . You might want to do likewise, and I am going to insist that you do it before placing any more such tags for a few days until you have a chance to do so ; I shall check that you are following the guidelines when you resume, so i can help you further.

Unnecessarily marking articles for deletion is harmful to Wikipedia, for it removes possibly usable content. But it is even more harmful than that: it discourages and confuses new editors. The survival of Wikipedia relies upon attracting and keeping new people, and most people whose first article is deleted --or even tagged for deletion -- never return. Tagging

{{Lead too short}} depends upon the size of the article. For articles such as Rhyne Williams (stubs), it doesn't necessarily apply. ~FeedintmParley 21:21, 24 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Bilal Khan (singer)

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Bilal Khan (singer) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Gaijin42 (talk) 19:51, 26 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

one source tag

edit

You added the one source tag to John McConnell. That tag is usually not needed for footballers, especially for a 150 year-old footballers. Older the article, the fewer the refs. Also adding a more references needed tag to most professional athletes is not needed when two high-quality sources are given. Bgwhite (talk) 05:55, 28 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

I see you were warned by DGG about speedy deletion tags. I know I've warned you as have others. If DGG is giving you a warning, that means you are close to losing privileges. When it comes to deleting articles, DGG is one of the most respected editors. I would stop speedy deleting for a bit or start asking somebody for guidance.
Have you talked to User:Assassin's Creed yet? He will help you out alot. I've give him a buzz to contact you. Bgwhite (talk) 06:01, 28 March 2012 (UTC)Reply
