Links to Morris' website edit

Please read the external links policy. One link to the mayor's site is more than sufficient in the article about Aurora. Moreover, you are wrong to infer that the policy allows a link on the first reference - that policy is for internal links only. If you continue to restore these links, the article may be protected from editing, or you may be blocked. Please also familiarise yourself with other Wikipedia policies and guidelines. Mindmatrix, I can find no specific reference to first use that you allude to. Please be more specific. I do understand that style guidelines are "... generally accepted standards that editors should attempt to follow, though it is best treated with common sense and occasional exception," according to policy. I also understand that "No page should be linked from a Wikipedia article unless its inclusion is justifiable." I believe "common sense" dictates a link to the Mayor's website, and that should be "generally accepted." I agree that not every mention of her name requires a link, but first reference is okay, I believe. And please, bully-boy threats are not productive to improving the Aurora website. Several points; first, the Wikipedia community has crafted its policies after significant debates to achieve a consensus - you don't get to over-ride them without providing incontrovertible reasons to do so. Articles should contain few external links, all of which should be in the "External links" section - the only exception is that some infoboxes provide a direct link to the website of the primary subject of the article. Second, there is no bullying - administrators have to deal with many new users who believe they can define their own rules for WP, ignoring all policies at their whim; the message I left above is a standard response to such actions. And by the way, adding numerous copies of one link to an article is not "productive". The article already contains a link to Morris' website, which is more than sufficient. (Technically, it should be deleted - it should only appear on an article about Morris herself. The Toronto article doesn't link to mayor David Miller's website.) The policy I was alluding to for first links was Wikipedia:Linking (see the "General principles" section, "Link only the first occurrence of an item...").
Aside: if you don't wish to expose your real name in Wikipedia, please don't move your talk page to a different name - this creates quite a few problems. Instead, request a name change at Wikipedia:Changing username. This will also change all instances of your name in the database, which will help protect your privacy. For the time being, I'm moving this page back to your current username, until a proper name change can be executed. Mindmatrix 22:57, 27 April 2009 (UTC)Reply
BTW: because of your page move, once your username is changed, the WP database will still contain mention of your real name, as part of its edit summary. Once the name is changed, please contact me, and I'll delete the two references that remain. Mindmatrix 23:01, 27 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Your recent edits edit

Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. If you can't type the tilde character, you should click on the signature button   located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Quick note - you need to logout, and log back in with your new userid. Your last edit was recorded under your old username. It should have the same password, but if you're unsure what it is, change it in your preferences before logging out, otherwise you'll be locked out of your account.
