Draft RfC

Lgtm, "general topics" mb. Bar Harel (talk) 19:05, 28 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
I am personally leery of including the "obvious bias" of things like the Qatar government in the same RfC - since it may lead to people saying "well, they're not reliable on that but that's their only obvious bias so they're reliable on the other things". That said, people are likely to bring that up so it's whatever. It may be prudent to specify that it is the English Al Jazeera being considered here. -bɜ:ʳkənhɪmez (User/say hi!) 03:23, 29 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
I would second that, as providing an obvious step might prevent people from seriously considering the other, less obvious questions. Thats best left for a second RFC, perhaps a follow on to this one? Captain Jack Sparrow (talk) 13:28, 29 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
@CapnJackSp: Can you clarify what you are suggesting here? Removing the second question? BilledMammal (talk) 06:09, 4 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
I know you didn't ping/request me to clarify but to clarify anyway, I think it would be ideal to focus on only the reliability of Al Jazeera with respect to the Arab-Israeli conflict, which would cover the majority of what they would be likely to be biased with respect to the Qatari government on. -bɜ:ʳkənhɪmez | me | talk to me! 06:54, 4 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I would suggest that the second question be handled separate from the other two. Captain Jack Sparrow (talk) 07:43, 4 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Al Jazeera English is a good remark. Bar Harel (talk) 23:21, 29 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Berchanhimez, CapnJackSp, and Bar Harel: I've updated the proposed questions in line with your suggestions. Any further suggestions before we open the discussion? BilledMammal (talk) 21:57, 15 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Bharel: Fix ping. BilledMammal (talk) 21:57, 15 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Looks good how it is now to me. Hopefully this doesn’t turn into something near as contentious as the Telegraph.. I think the evidence is clear based on the prior discussions on the noticeboard that Al Jazeera English is not a “reliable narrator” for topics in the Israel-Palestine conflict, and hopefully linking to those discussions (are there any more? 2ish looks like a low number for something) will help this discussion to a consensus. -bɜ:ʳkənhɪmez | me | talk to me! 22:19, 15 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hopefully
A lot more; I’ll add them to a collapsible box at the bottom of the first section tonight. BilledMammal (talk) 22:24, 15 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
I'll be honest with you, I think these are political votes at this point. No matter what false information will Al Jazeera spew (across more than 14 past discussions just within the RS noticeboard), the RFC will fall short and will still be considered "reliable among editors". A hundred different excuses will be given and nothing will change. They can have reporters who are members in US and EU designated terrorist organizations, with the HQ operating from a country with no freedom of press funded by the ruling dictatorship, banned by multiple countries on several occasions with reporters sharing antisemitic caricatures from Nazi Germany, but they'll still be marked as reliable.
The RFC is pointless but at least it'll prove that Wikipedia turned into a political tool, away from its goal of being reliable, let alone neutral.
It's pretty simple, the pro-Palestinian cause is the only truth and anything else is fake news as evident by the i-don't-know how many past discussions. Bar Harel (talk) 22:48, 15 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
