June 2020: Some suggestions

This list would have more utility if it had a column for the state in which a district resides. It also would be beneficial if district names were wikilinked to the articles about them. --Quisqualis (talk) 20:38, 30 June 2020 (UTC)

Suggestions - July 1 2020

You put a lot of work into this. Good job! It would be helpful to include the sourcing for the codes, with a key explaining them. For example, on your list, different unrelated districts have the same district code - is that correct? It seems to go against the whole purpose of having a code. And, a key would clarify what is an SI# and a Dist#? Also, the proper name for this article has to be worked on, and the redlink fixed. This list is going to be difficult to maintain, but you can include a link to it in the "see also" section of of the state and district articles. For example, in Adilabad district#See also. Finally, I think you're better off adding a state/union territory (UT) column with the state name fully spelled out, since those codes will be unfamiliar to many. Dear @TimTempleton, I thank you sincerely for reviewing my draft in such details,,, I am putting forward the following arguments / clarifications for your further suggestions.

1. India is a country with 36 divisions (28 States & 8 Union Territories) as of now. They are further divided into 739 districts..., The article List of Districts of India covers the topic quite well, covering State/ Union Territories wise.

My article is placing them together, so can be sorted for rankings. This will be put as a separate article, but linked with the above article.

2. I have corrected the link. 3. I have removed the "Total" row.

4. I am recreating the table....but code for the State will remain. As I shall explain in the article, the full Code for a district is IN-ST-DT where IN represent India, ST the State / Union Territory & DT - the District..... ( So you were right to be amazed with so many same DT code :) ) 5. I will not be putting the link for the State at the code directly for the 739 districts..., but there will be a linked table with the keys to the Codes at the bottom explaining the code.

4. Now with so many cells with numbers (3 columns for 739 districts). Add to this, Sl no. column... I am not formatting them I want to keep the table simple.. Waiting for your valuable feedback for this draft. Cheers Anupam Dutta (talk) 15:58, 2 July 2020 (UTC)

3. I have removed the "total" row. Now there are 2,220 cells with numbers (3 columns for 739 districts + 1 row for summation). Add to this, Sl no. & Dist. Sl. No. - 1,478 columns.... Total columns with numbers come to 3,698.. So I have not formatted them. Similarly, there is no link to anywhere, as I want to keep the table simple.. Waiting for your valuable feedbacks. Cheers

It should just make the categories clear, and provide sourcing. I'd have to see the final version to comment more. Let me know when you are done. I moved your comment from below up above. Relational database comment

This looks like it could be a valid fork from List of districts in India, since it's so long. It's too bad that there's not an easy way to put this into an underlying relational database, so it could be updated in once place and then fed to the two articles where this info will sit. Example: the sandbox content above, and List of districts of Andhra Pradesh, for the 13 districts in Andra Pradesh. But that's probably a discussion for the village pump and article talk page.
