Demographics of Aguascalientes edit

Hello. I've just seen the above-named article you created and thought you might find this template useful. Even though that template is for countries rather than subdivisions, I can't find any reason why it can't still be used here. LordVetinari (talk) 02:04, 12 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Check on Spanish translation edit

The article National Autonomous University of Mexico has had the English translation of the university's motto changed several times recently; I think wrongly. The motto is "Por mi raza hablará el espíritu". The translation currently there is "The spirit shall speak for my race". I think it should be something like "The spirit shall speak through my people". Surely "through" not "for", but the exact sense of "raza" here needs an expert! Could you change it if you think it's currently wrong? Peter coxhead (talk) 18:49, 1 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Edit summary edit

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Please make sure to include an edit summary. Please provide one before saving your changes to an article, as the summaries are quite helpful to people browsing an article's history. Thanks! ComputerJA (talk) 07:55, 13 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Guaviare department edit

On 14 February 2013, you changed the area of Guaviare department from 53,460 sq.km. to 42,327 sq.km. without citing a source. The Colombian web page for Guaviare department still gives the area as:

Extensión total: 53460 Km2

as does the 2009 "Datos y Cifras del Guaviare" document, and other official Colombian documents.

On what basis did you make the change? I realize that in the 1990s that several unofficial sources listed 42,327 sq.km., but I understood that the number had been officially revised upwards, but I do not have a source for when that happened or the exact circumstances. --Bejnar (talk) 03:10, 16 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Extensión total: 54.135 Km2
What's up? --Bejnar (talk) 03:28, 16 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I see the problem. Your source is a secondary source that used 25 year old published data for the areas, those areas have since changed. Guaviare department was listed as 42,327 sq.km. when it was created as a national territory in 1977. Guaviare was formed by presidential order in December 1977. Its 16,342-square-mile (42,327-square-kilometre) area incorporated the majority of Vaupes' inhabitants when it was formed. 1993 Encyclopedia Britannia, Micropedia page 538. Then there was a transfer, prior to 2009, of 11,133 sq.km. from Vaupés department to Guaviare department, and some sources have not updated their records. Secondary sources that have updated their records include the 2012 Historical Dictionary of Colombia which indicates 53,460 sq.km. for Guaviare department (page 248) and 54,135 sq.km. for Vaupés department (page 291). I have restored the current figures to the articles in question. --Bejnar (talk) 20:07, 16 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
I think that I caught all of the changes, including the changes in rank by area. I have also provided several of the infoboxes of the Colombia department articles with proper citations for area, including, I hope, all of the problematic ones. That still leaves about 24 departments lacking citations for area. See Talk:List of Colombian Departments by area#Sources for stated areas. I've done: Amazonas, Archipelago of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina, Boyacá, ‎Cesar, Cundinamarca, Guaviare, Magdalena, Putumayo, Vaupés, and Vichada. --Bejnar (talk) 02:59, 17 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Mexico Census edit

I've deleted all the iterations of the mexico census except for the first one, as they all consisted only of {{MXCensus}}. The first one is tenuous but I'll let it exist for you to make expansions. Please add some content before recreating them. You may wish to develop them in userspace. Thanks for your contributions, I am only deleting them as they currently have no substantive content. Mexican States Flags edit

Hello AlexR.L. I think your proposed flags for the Mexican states are very interesting proposals but I would like to know if there is any motivation behind them like some symbology or meaning for the designs. I know some have a historical background like from the old republics of Baja California or Yucatan but for others I don't know. Please let me know since I was thinking on the same idea and to make a convincing proposal I think you should add meaning to the flags, justify the designs based on symbols and history. Fermin (talk) 18:25, 5 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hello Ferminx, I will put why the reason for my proposal, but I've been quite busy. --Alex 18:51, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

Proposed flags edit

Hi, I left you a message on Commons. I saw that you now don't contribute much there any more, so I'm putting my message here too. The summary of my message is that if you are going to upload any new proposed or fictional flags, please use the {{Fictional flag}} template in the file pages on Commons, so that nobody is mislead in thinking that the flags are in official use by a government. Many people assume Wikipedia has some good level of correctness, and it would be good if Wikipedia was more correct on this matter, because most people don't double-check. Another advantage of using the template is that it is multilingual and appears in the user's own language, so proposed flags won't be taken as real by editors of other Wikipedias (for example the Estonian Wikipedia). Thanks. --BurritoBazooka (talk) 23:44, 5 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.   Hi there! Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

I noticed your recent edit to Yucatán does not have an edit summary. Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.

Edit summary content is visible in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. Thanks! bojo1498 talk 14:10, 9 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Latin American 10,000 Challenge invite edit

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Latin America/The 10,000 Challenge ‎ has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Brazil, Mexico, Peru and Argentina etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Latin American content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon. If you would like to see this happening for Latin America, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Latin America, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant!♦ --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 00:24, 27 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
