Deletion of Ankhet

edit

Can you please tell me why this was deleted other than "Blatant Advertising"? It was an unfinished copy of something that would help out all the new players joining Ankhet. It was not meant to be advertising. I'm open to any suggestions on how to edit it so it isn't considered Blatant Advertising. I'm not sure if the signing thing will work, but this is Jumsy. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jumsy (talkcontribs) 20:57, August 22, 2007 (UTC).

Wikipedia is not the place for people to join your game clans, see WP:NOT, and WP:N Jaranda wat's sup 20:59, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

What is the definition of Blatant advertising? How come other games (ie. Pyroto Mountain, or MapleStory, or any of the other online games) have articles then (especially since Ankhet is from the same creators of Pyroto.) 203.59.100.103 09:28, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

It's not meant for that at all, but if you don't have any suggestions on how I could edit it to meet wiki's standards, is there still away I could reclaim it and move it to a different place such as wikibooks. The first link you sent me says that it is a place for game guides.

Jumsy —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jumsy (talkcontribs) 21:11, August 22, 2007 (UTC).

I don't know if wikibooks may accept that info though, it won't meet wikipedia standards, if you need the info, I could always email to you, you need to have your email enabled though. Thanks Jaranda wat's sup 21:13, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

Deletion of My Enemy, My Ally by Diane Duane

edit

This article was deleted without discussion. The only notation is that "Wikipedia is not a plot summary." While the plot summary was the only part of the article submitted so far (and not labelled or even complete at the time) the novel is one of many by that author, some of which have articles and some of which do not. Can that article be undeleted and the "Plot Summary" header added to the part that was there? And so this doesn't happen with the other three titles in that miniseries of Star Trek novels by this author, is there a formatting requirement list that should be used?

TravellerDMT-07 14:02, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

It was tagged for WP:PROD and I deleted per the user reason, contested prod have to undelete, likely placing it in WP:AFD though. Thanks Jaranda wat's sup 14:06, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

Sorry, not sure what all this means("user reason"? WP:AFD points to the definition page...), still can't find article to complete it if it was truly undeleted. The page on Diane Duane (the book's author) has a link for this title (and others) that should point to the entry for that book, but it points nowhere. 98.194.89.153 05:25, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

Deletion of Windward Studios page

edit

I would like to know why the Windward Studios page was deleted. This company has produced open source software, all of which is now freely available. Timelines for company history were given, references from many verified sources on the web were given. This article was also edited and modified by many users. I logged in today and was about to edit some changes I saw that were not relevant posted by another user when I noticed the page was deleted without warning. I believe WP rules stated that you must post to a page that is has been marked for deletion before it is deleted.

I saw the cleanup, June 2007 tag, which seems to me as a recreation of an article that was deleted before, also indiviual songs aren't notable unless they charted and lyrics are copyrighted. Jaranda wat's sup 16:16, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

Hip Hop Healthy Coalition

You all are really starting to get on my nerves. If you can read then you'll see the significance of this entry. The Hip Hop Healthy Coalition is dedicated to promoting positive health messages to young people through the use of Hip Hop. That is self explanatory. Deletion of articles?

edit

Can administrators delete articles if an AfD debate is already open? I ask you because one) I'm curious, and two) the article List of Los Angeles Dodgers Opening Day Starting Lineups is copyvio, which I just noted after nominating the article for AfD, and the creator of the article, Spanneraol (talk · contribs), denies that it is. The AfD debate is here. Ksy92003(talk) 23:02, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

I just voted strong delete in that article, as I noticed it in the AFD page, let it run it's course as it will likely get deleted sooner or later, Spanneraol reason is moot there. Thanks Jaranda wat's sup 23:03, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I noticed that... you had just commented there right as I was preparing to post my comment here; otherwise, I probably wouldn't have left you the comment. We'll have to see what happens. Sorry for the "eventually unnecessary" comment here, Jaranda :) Ksy92003(talk) 23:11, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

An unrelated comment, but when looking at AfD discussions, do you take the nominator's rationale into account when deciding to delete an article (if that's what's necessary)? Ksy92003(talk) 23:43, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

SPAN page creation.

edit

ChipMD and I are trying to establish a page for the Students Peace Action Network. It seems that during construction of this page you sponsored a speedy deletion of our work. Please cease this activity immediately. We are working to establish a page which applies itself fully with the wikipedia template and the premature deletion of our work will undermine the establishment of an informational document.

Please understand that I have read the CSD A7 notification and that this organization of political activists may not be arbitrarily categorized as "unremarkable" without an actual discussion.

Deleted Student Peace Action Network Article

edit

It seems you've deleted the article on the Student Peace Action Network (SPAN) twice. The first time seemed justifiable since I had prematurely clicked the save button and only the title appeared on the page. However, before I could edit the page (we are talking five minutes here) you deleted. That seems pretty quick, but still fair. However, the second time you deleted the page was not just at all. As state in the article SPAN is a national organization with over 130 affiliates and chapters. That makes one of the largest if not the largest student peace group in the country. Another student based antiwar organization, Campus Antiwar Network, has had a long standing article. A long standing that has several problems and has been tagged for needing to be fixed. However, it has not been deleted as it has been establish CAN is significant. Now I question how one could argue any national organization, paticulary one as large as SPAN, is insignificant. If you had a problem with the article I wish you would of posted it in the talk page or given the article a chance I'm sure it could of been worked out. Instead of trying to find a solution or work out a problem in a reasonable amount of time you just deleted the page. I take serious issue with that and would like to try to resolve this issue.

edit

I just noticed that an article on NBA player Louis Amundson was deleted without any discussion, or even a notice at Wikipedia:WikiProject National Basketball Association. Don Beyer Volvo speedy deletion

edit

Hi. I am Journalist1983. Yesterday you deleted Don Beyer Volvo (as well as Land Rover Alexandria). Based on my reading, I believe that it's possible you violated WP policy, in that if a speedy review is contested (it was), and if the subject matter isn't controversial and the article not nonsense (they weren't), then you're not supposed to delete the article without a discussion.

The article was extremely well sourced (review my work -- I over-source, if anything). It was extremely well written; there was no nonsense in it (I have a journalism degree and am a professional writer). I agree that the issue of whether it was truly "notable" could be a point of discussion, a discussion in which I am willing to engage. But there was not any blatant advertising (the WP article was substantially toned down from the sourced articles from respected newspapers such as the Washington Post and others; this is a really cool auto dealership with years of local and international do-good works associated with it).

Moreover, given that there are other car dealerships in WP (see Category:Auto dealerships), most of which -- in any objective view -- are not any more notable than Don Beyer Volvo, I think you erred by not permitting a discussion. WP states when NOT to use speedy deletion:

Sometimes speedy deletion criteria are applied to articles that they do not and were not intended to apply to; also, rules that are not speedy deletion rules are often mistakenly used to justify speedy deletion. This section aims to clarify some of the frequently used "non-criteria" that are commonly cited but are not sufficient, by themselves, to justify speedy deletion. These are not rules and intended only to be commonly understood interpretations of the criteria above.
Non-notable subjects with their importance asserted: Articles that have obviously non-notable subjects are still not eligible for speedy deletion unless the article "does not assert the importance or significance of its subject". If the article gives a claim that might be construed as making the subject notable, it should be taken to a wider forum. [emphasis added] However, articles with only a statement like "This guy was like so friggin' notable!" can be deleted for lacking context, because it gives no context about the subject.

(See Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion#Non-criteria)

A claim of notability had been made, both on the discussion page and on the talk page of the editor who placed the speedy deletion tag. The article was not controversial or nonsense. I respectfully ask that you place the article back and permit the discussion to ensue. Thank you. Journalist1983 13:06, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

I appreciate you can pick and choose -- I have edited hundreds of articles, some more than others. WP states that you should not engage in personal attacks, which you have clearly done above. I am new to WP (as of March 07 anyway) and admit I am still learning. I have had no other screen names. Please stick to the content and refrain from attacks. Kind regards, Journalist1983 16:30, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

See WP:CORP, I speedied another car dealership in the category, and the rest are notable chains. Jaranda wat's sup 19:13, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

I opened a discussion with him, politely asking how I am violating the policies he claims I am, because I wasn't familiar with any of them. But when I asked him, he refused to answer, then archived the discussion. I then made an edit to a user subpage which he continues to blank. Can you please tell me why our page, Triad High School (Troy, IL), was deleted? I realize that this page means absolutely nothing to you, and you probably don't care much, but a new student at our school may find this interesting. Not to mention friends of mine who don't go to school with me. It took my friend and I sometime to create that page seeing as we're new to wikipedia and we found it very rude that you deleted it. If you're going to delete ours, why not delete the other Triad High School page, and also Calallen High School. They obviously are of as little importance as our high school.

Deletion of Capital IQ- Review Requested

edit

Hi, I was hoping that you could provide me with some insight into why this article was deleted. I understand the policy quoted in the edit summary, but the decision to delete appears to have been made without any discussion with or notification to interested editors to allow them the opportunity to address the concern.

The article was on my watchlist and I did not see a "prod" or a similar improvement template. After a quick search I also could not find any AfD discussion. Finally, I recall that the Talk page for the article included notes from several editors stating their belief that the company was notable (I know that this in itself is not enough to establish notability, but should have demonstrated that deletion of this article would be controversial and therefore additional discussion would have been appropriate).

If I've missed the discussion on deletion of this article please point me in that direction, otherwise I respectfully request that you consider undeleting the article and adding a relevant improvement tag so that myself and other interested editors can address the notability concern. Many thanks. Richc80 11:40, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

Calton tagged it for a CSD as the company didn't claim notabilty. Jaranda wat's sup 17:28, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the information, but it just seems to confirm my thought that a proper discussion did not take place prior to deletion. The rule referenced in your deletion edit summary (CSD A7 (Corp)) states "If controversial, or if there has been a previous deletion discussion that resulted in the article being kept, list the article at Articles for deletion instead.". As I mentioned above, the Talk page for this article contained statements from multiple users indicating their belief that the company was notable, which I think would be enough to demonstrate that its deletion could be controversial. As such, I again respectfully request that you undelete the article. If you want to then list it at AfD so be it, but at least it would give myself and other editors time to address the notability concern. Many thanks. Richc80 20:49, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

Best of luck, and could I suggest that you do not attempt to request desysopping, unless you have reason to believe that your account might become compromised, and that if you do request desysopping for that reason, you simply ask for your tools back on your return. I'm sure I'd be happy to support you in another RfA, but I think the community would resent the waste of time, and would feel that you were just looking for a pat on the back, and you might end up with an unsuccessful RfA as a result. We do support you, but we don't necessarily appreciate being asked to demonstrate our support when it should be just taken for granted. That's just a gentle hint. If you weren't thinking of it, I apologise for the suggestion! I hope all goes well for you, and hope to see you back as soon as possible, without damage to your real life commitments. Cheers. Of course I'm not doing it again, I barely passed that RFA, I'm editing until Monday, and then I'll be on once in a while (but not every day or even week), mainly NP patrol which of course tools are needed. Jaranda wat's sup 20:20, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

Deletion of Everett Public Library

edit

Why did you delete the Everett Public Library page?

See WP:N, libraries are considered non-notable and this one has no claim of notabilty see also WP:CSD Jaranda wat's sup 20:55, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

LAMPS

edit

Hi Jaranda, i'm wondering why you deleted the newly re-instated entry on the LAMPS. here's my conversation with John Reaves, who previously deleted it:

See WP:MUSIC, and needs the reliable sources as well. The band site isn't a reliable source, Jaranda wat's sup 18:15, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

Per WP:MUSIC, they have two releases on a big independent label, In The Red Records. Their band page on the labels website is here[4], their catalogue for sale is here[5]. What else? Fullmetaljacuzzi 21:12, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

The label is a red link, and the label website isn't a WP:RS, if I see something like a allmusic link, than I'll undelete and place it on WP:AFD Jaranda wat's sup 21:13, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

Check now. and what can be a reliable source to prove that a band has substantial releases on the leading garage punk label BESIDES the actual website of said record label? Record reviews? what? Fullmetaljacuzzi 21:15, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

done. [6] I don't understand why it would be placed on AFD though. I've essentially proved that this band exists in a bigger capacity then your typical backyard jamboree bar band that plays covers for beer. Fullmetaljacuzzi 21:18, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

Ok I'm undeleting, but don't create articles on the band members, thanks Jaranda wat's sup 21:19, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

I wasn't planning on it. Fullmetaljacuzzi 21:25, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

Yea I said that as I normally see stubs of band members that I'm tired of deleting, I normally warn people about that when they create a band article. Doesn't really affect you. Thanks Jaranda wat's sup 21:27, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

Harvard University

edit

I am trying to revert vandalism on Harvard University but the spam protection filter is preventing me from reverting vandalism. Are you able to do it, since you are an admin? NHRHS2010 Talk 18:35, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. NHRHS2010 Talk 18:36, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
Yet ran into another spam protection filter while reverting vandalism on Mike Bacsik. NHRHS2010 Talk 18:40, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
