Article Evaluation
editEverything on this page flows according to a thought process that makes sense to me. They have multiple sources ranging from different journals and each link is accessible. The article is based on fact, and there are no biases that exist within this entry. They could have added links to other pages such as a link to the "Evidence Based Practice" page, or the PICOT question page that both exist on wikipedia. The way that this article is written is a lot more concise and clear cut than what we've done in class. All of the information is in one place and it gives details that are useful for me as a student. This page is organized well in terms of the headings, and subheadings that are extremely easy to follow.

editCritiquing articles: What did you learn about Wikipedia during the article evaluation? How did you approach critiquing the article you selected for this assignment? How did you decide what to add to your chosen article?
editDuring this article evaluation, I learned about everything that goes into creating a wikipedia page. There are so many components and contributors that help make it all flow. Looking at so many different wikipedia article and talk pages showed me that everyone on wikipedia is dedicated and passionate about spreading knowledge to the rest of the world. Wikipedia is a community of individuals spreading knowledge and I never really understood how the site worked until this project. I chose dialysis as my article because I have learned a lot about dialysis this semester and it is extremely fascinating to me. When I visited the Dialysis page, everything looked pretty complete except for the section about dialysis funding. I found a lot of data about how China funds dialysis and I thought that my contribution to this topic would be valuable to those who were contributing on the talk page.
Summarizing your contributions: include a summary of your edits and why you felt they were a valuable addition to the article. How does your article compare to earlier versions?
editThe article on dialysis was only missing a few valuable parts such as complications and funding. These were both discussed in the talk page. In my edits, I added who funds for dialysis in China. At first I only wrote about the government, and in my second edit I added statistics about dialysis in China that made the contribution a little more valuable. My edit only included adding a section, so the rest of the article wasn't touched by my editing.

editI learned that research and finding valuable sources takes a lot of work and effort. There are so many unreliable sources out there, but you want to make sure that you are using a credible source before editing wikipedia or sharing information with people in general. In nursing, it is important that all our knowledge is evidence based and that we are staying up to date on current knowledge to best inform practice and patients. This assignment was a lot different than anything I've ever done. It was frustrating at times because the lay out of our expectations wasn't very clear, however I liked doing a small piece of the assignment every week. I enjoyed being able to see the contributions of others. Wikipedia can always be improved because research and data is constantly being updated in the field of health care. It is important that it is changed on Wikipedia because it is something looked at by a lot of people and individuals should be correctly informed if they are looking through Wikipedia to gain knowledge on a specific topic.

I really like the article that you chose. I was thinking that this article could have also used maybe patient education about dialysis. Doing dialysis is a dramatic change in a patients life so therefore it probably will take them awhile to adjust to this. I think this article did a good job though breaking down the difference between peritoneal and hemodialysis.Even maybe discussing the type of diet restrictions each type of dialysis includes could also be beneficial for future edits.
