Patriots-Giants game

edit

The purpose of starting the new article was that there was a significant thread on the 2007 NEP season page about whether or not the coverage of the Week 17 game was excessive. Given the significance attached to the game (the biggest 'meaningless' game ever played, so to speak), the opinions seemed to be that coverage was justified, though perhaps not to that length in that particular article.

In any case, I tried to undo your redirect, but I can't seem to get the article back. If you would please un-redirect it, I would greatly appreciate it (since, ultimately, I expect that the link will go in the other direction--i.e., basic coverage in the NEP article, with a link to the more extensive coverage here). Samer (talk) 06:41, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

Perhaps a better title is needed, but the date isn't as important as the week ("Week 17"). Samer (talk) 19:21, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

Welcome, sorry for the delay in getting a message out. The project is slowly reorganizing. The Project page is a bit out of date and needs updating badly. Please check the talk page for more current information and please Tag, Tag, Tag, the talk pages of any article in this topic so we can start trying to coordinate work on articles and give us some suggestions on the talk page for how we can get this Project moving again. Currently there are hundreds of related articles that are not tagged yet. Thanks and again, welcome!--Doug.(talk contribs) 03:27, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

  3. Develop quality articles. Increase the amount of good and Featured articles about Saskatchewan related content.
  4. Develop top importance articles about Saskatchewan such as those about crown corporations. the provincial government and its several departments. From the Saskatchewan wiki meeting held back on 23 June 2007 it was discussed to develop an article on Health in Saskatchewan, and to improve to feature status articles: Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Regina.
  5. The University of Saskatchewan became a good article to celebrate the 2007 anniversary of campus, and should now have a peer reveiw to continue on to becoming a feature article. The List of University of Saskatchewan alumni was developed to assist this article and help would be appreciated providing citations for each entry, and to help add to the list.

Highway Picture Template

  • Just as there is only one image needed for upload for Saskatchewan locator maps, and then various towns can be updated upon this image. So, too there should be a highway picture template, so that the various numbered highways 1, 33, 34, 58, 913, 914, etc can all have their own image without needing to create a bizzilion numbered images online.

2004 Election

  • Our 2004 Saskatchewan election has resulted in an amazing number of politician biographies coming online! This was an awesome achievement, and something to be proud of!
  • Qyd (talk · contribs) and Arctic.gnome (talk · contribs) are editors of a wide variety of Canadian related articles, and of note as of this date is the enormous amount of work they have undertaken to help amalgamate all the various provincial wikiprojects and Canadian sub projects into one umbrella assessment department. This unique assessment department means that Saskatchewan related articles can be assessed for their own provincial merit, and also belong to the Canadian wikiproject as well. It also means that editors from both Canada wikiproject and Saskatchewan wikiproject can unite in their efforts to provide banners and ratings to articles. This will result in a huge improvement in quality on wikipedia, resulting in Saskatchewan's spotlight award for Qyd (talk · contribs). January 2008 newsletter Please pop into the Spotlight Department and read all the brief introductory Wikipedia Saskatchewan bio. Congratulations are sent out to Qyd (talk · contribs)] and Arctic.gnome (talk · contribs) at this time.
  • Please feel free to sign up as a Spotlight administrator and nominate more excellent and notable Saskatchewan editors on Wikipedia who deserve attention, and honour. For every wikipedia user who is mentioned in the spotlight department, they will receive a Wikipedia Saskatchewan Ribbon on their user pages for excellent service! The Editor's Desk

Welcome and Happy New Year!:

  • Just as panic begins to settle in as to what in the world the next newsletter should mention, new areas of development and growth come about. The coming year of 2008 should provide not only more Saskatchewan articles, but also more articles with higher ratings with the assistance of more editors, and a new assessment department umbrella. The highways and roads project has given a good base for development, and to strengthen the presence and notability of roads and highways and effort is being called upon to help these articles improve, now that they too are under the assessment umbrella.
  • Lastly, this is your newsletter and you can be involved in the creation of the Newsletter. Any and all contributions are welcome. Simply let yourself be known to any of the undersigned, or just start editing!

Saskatchewan Roads and Highways

Saskatchewan Roads and Highways The WikiProject Canada Roads is undergoing an overhaul. It is aiming to produce some Good articles and Featured articles of highway content pertaining to Canada, and for the Saskatchewan Roads and Highways for Saskatchewan highways. As Saskatchewan is still a work in progress this is a challenging endeavour for as the guidelines are followed as laid out at either Highway wikiproject, they become red link farms because wikilinked articles have not been developed regarding the communities, provincial and regional parks and rural municipalities which the highways meander through. Please keep apprised of the progress, and if any Saskatchewan articles rise above stub we will list it on the main page.

There is also discussion started about assessment and navigation boxes on the talk page. Please peek in to add any comments you may have.

If you want to add your name as a particpant to the Canada Roads wikiproject [here]. To join the Saskatchewan Roads wikiproject sign on the main here please.

Recently articles Saskatchewan Highway 1, 33, 34, 58, 913, 914 have been improved, but they need more help so they can become articles nominated as Good articles. Please help out if you are able, even to create community and rural municipality articles for these Highway articles would be an enormous help.

To keep updated on proposals, deletion debates, etc. add {{Wikipedia:WikiProject Canada Roads/News}} or {{Wikipedia:WikiProject Canada Roads/News|right}} to your userpage to produce the box of notices in the above right. See this page for new areas of discussion: talk page WP SK roads

My Rollback

edit

The chat was in good jest and too sided cab you seriously explain to anybody how I was out of order. The gentlemen took it in good faith and knew I was joking. Do you not think he would have helped me otherwise? Please contact User:Jza84 if you in any doubt. I am really upset that anyone can think I am some kind of muslim terrorist you really misunderstood. Bpeps (talk) 20:56, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

I'd prefer him to say that I wasn't ready than you decide on the conversation ok. Please let him get back to me or you, I dunno, I no terrorist. Bpeps (talk) 21:03, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

I honestly don't know what you mean - you have obviously read the few articles I have written and know I am a muslim. muslim=terrorist? I said some things to User:Jza84 but it was during holidays and I was awake until 3am, my dead was working late and I had to make food for him when he came back. I am not like that everyday, I was surfing Wikipedia, I saw how many Good Articles he had about towns like my and I wanted his help. Nobody is foolishly enough to think that somebody promicing an agree is going to influence Afd?

I don't know this all looks to bad for me now. A potato is no apple until you tell him he is, but when u tell an apple he is a potato again, I think the earth cries. Bpeps (talk) 21:43, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

I have been thinking about this all through the week and just checking what Rollback is about. It is about fighting vandalism not about vague encounters (interaction on talk pages that are a little flamy but not enough to ever be considered disruptive).

The granting of an anti-vandalism tool is surely about whether the editor is going to abuse it. I have Twinkle and have used that without incident. I can't get your reasoning through my head still. It all seems like a Holism way of looking at things. This is about Rollback, I am not applying for RfA. If Rollback is abused the tool is withdrawn and the user sanctioned. Bpeps (talk) 19:21, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

Gosh despite efforts it isn't working - I banged on about Flag-Rev and an underclass of editors. Do you think when spring comes everybody will forget about the editors who only cuss a bit and help the non flagged revision come good? I think so - really hoping for that and I reckon Esperanza will bloom again BpEps - t@lk 15:48, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

Basic Training

edit

Well congrats, Merovingian, and if you have any questions about BCT and Fort Jackson, just ask me! (Been there, done that, back in 2000!) Edit Centric (talk) 22:50, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, but the recruiter will only tell you so much. I can fill in some of the blanks. Also, my son has a good friend that just returned to Jackson from Christmas exodus, she's in "White phase" of BCT right now. A couple of notes of interest: 1) You WILL have to breathe CS gas when you go through the gas chamber, it's what they call "confidence-building" with your gas mask. 2) When you go through BRM (Basic Rifle Marksmanship), remember these things;
  1. SPORTS: Slap, Pull, Observe, Release, Tap, Squeeze. When your weapon jams, this is the process to clear it. Slap the bottom of the magazine. Pull back the charging handle. Observe the chamber to see if it's clear. Release the charging handle. Tap the forward assist. Squeeze the trigger (make sure you're keeping your weapon pointed downrange!)
  2. ALWAYS keep your weapon pointed up, and downrange!
  3. The armorers like to use humidifiers in the arms room to accelerate rust on the weapons, just so that the drill sergeant(s) can yell at you for not cleaning your weapon thoroughly!
  4. Most of the carbon deposits form on the firing pin. Use your bore brush to scrub it off.
  5. When you fire your weapon, remember: breathe in, hold, aquire your target / your sight picture and fire, then breathe out. (NEVER fire during a breath, it will throw off your sight picture!)
  6. NEVER forget to keep that weapon pointed up and downrange, drill sergeants LOVE to jump on the private that points it down the row, or back towards the range tower!
If there's anything else that you want to know about the mechanics, the schedule or the minutia of BCT and AIT (SPEAKING OF WHICH, what's your MOS gonna be!?), feel free to ask. I went through the process twice, once in 1989, and again in 2000. Edit Centric (talk) 23:19, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
AWESOME MOS!! So that means either Signal Corps, or MI, not sure which one that would fall under. But either way, it sounds like you will have a VERY exciting career! Oh, by the way. Before you make the decision that you're going career, try it out for your first enlistment. You may feel differently at the end of your tour, it all depends. Then again, I put my cousin in in 1994, and he is now a WO1 (Warrant Officer)! Whatever you do, keep an open mind, pay attention to your drill sergeants, and suck up the information like a sponge. There will be times in BCT that you'll wonder if you made the right decision, but rest assured that there are those of us out here that have gone before you, that support you. It takes a real man to sign your name on the dotted line, especially knowing what's going on in the world, and signing anyway. You go, Ryan! (I salute you!) Edit Centric (talk) 23:45, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

By The Way!!

edit

By the way Merovingian, could you check on something for me? Recently, an SSP case was completed on User:AL2TB, and the userpage was marked with the sockpuppet template. Today, the user removed the template from their userpage. Is that kosher? I wouldn't think so... Edit Centric (talk) 00:46, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

I have very little experience in AfD matters, and am asking for your input before nominating an article for deletion, because, quite frankly, I do not want to be seen as someone who capriciously nominates articles which do not meet AfD standards.

If you have time, please take a look at this article. It was created by the person who—as the intro asserts—is the very person who coined the term. Most of the edits are by that person. Most, if not all, of the sources link back to this person. I mean, at best it appears to me to constitute OR, at worst, self-promotion. But maybe I'm seeing it wrong. What do you think?

I selected you and many other editors pretty much completely at random; I picked one day's AfD archives, and clicked on the talk pages of the first two or three dozen editors' talk pages I came across. I hope that in using this selection method, I will get editors who are well-versed in AfD policies, yet who also represent a good cross-section of AfD philosophies. I will monitor your talk page for your response. Thanks. Unschool (talk) 07:08, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on 'New' musicology, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because 'New' musicology is a redirect page resulting from an implausible typo (CSD R3).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting 'New' musicology, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. To see the user who deleted the page, click here CSDWarnBot (talk) 17:00, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

Hey there, you don't need to make redirects with apostrophes/quotation marks. The vast likelyhood is that such things will not be used by searchers, and they have been taken off under what is called an "implausible typo". Thought I would save you some work! :) SGGH speak! 17:45, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
Still at it? Am I missing something? They are just being deleted under CSD:R3... SGGH speak! 11:39, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
They still keep appearing on CAT:SPEEDY, perhaps you just created more than I realised and they are still being flagged up. Never mind, it's just me not paying as much attention as I should :) SGGH speak! 15:35, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
2004? Crikey! Slow bot if it is one. Anyway, thanks for your understanding and happy editing :) SGGH speak! 15:43, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

Am I missing something, Merovingian; is there a good reason why you blocked an established editor without paying any notice to Wikipedia:Blocking#Reasons_and_notification. Regarding the block itself, even if you claim Siarach was edit warring, he wasn't doing so any more than User:Angr, and was using the talk page extensively. This looks like extreme incompetence. I hope you've got some good explanation that might lead me to believe you shouldn't be de-sysoped. Deacon of Pndapetzim (Talk) 11:31, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

Fair enough - I appreciate the explanation. Cheers. siarach (talk) 12:03, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
It's good that you apologised to him, and I respect the way you're handling it now. I appreciate that everyone's human, though you might wanna familiarise yourself with that page if this is something you see yourself doing alot in future. All the best, Deacon of Pndapetzim (Talk) 12:08, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
(ec)Deacon, please, Assume good faith. There's no real reason for you to allude to de-sysopping, and call Merovingian incompetent, over something that, to me was pretty obviously a good-faith mistake. Really, block notification isn't even mandated. Obviously, the editor in question received notification, as they noted the block, by requesting unblocking. The very page you link to, states "Administrators should also notify users when blocking them by leaving a message on their user talk page unless they have a good reason not to.". Note that it says should and not must. Personally, I try to notify folks myself, if I've blocked them, but, if one forgets, that's no reason to allude to/threaten de-sysopping, and make personal attacks. SQLQuery me! 12:09, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
Well, I tried to assume good faith on Deacon's part. I guess I could understand how a block out of the blue can be upsetting. He was a bit harsh, yes, but I daresay I've been in tighter spots. --Merovingian (T, C) 12:16, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
(resp. to sql) SQL, Assume the assumption of Good Faith. I've no idea why you wish to drag this out for him nor direct me to that page. Suffice to say, blocking an established user is one of wikipedia's most serious matters, and your assertion the editor in question received notification, as they noted the block, by requesting unblocking. is patent nonsense. If you disagree, go to Wikipedia talk:Blocking policy and suggest a rewording or clarification and dilution of the word "should". I appreciate and respect that you may just be trying to help a friend, but admins who make a habit of blocking established users callously, without paying attention to the situation, without issuing warnings and without notifying should be de-sysoped or "be refrained" from using the blocking button. Wikipedia is a community that relies on mutual respect and trust, esp. of admins. I didn't have a clue about who Merovingian was when I saw what happened and was shocked, but see above, Merovingian handled it professionally, clarified the situation, and its been resolved. Need I say more? Deacon of Pndapetzim (Talk) 12:29, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
Serious, yes, but WP policy sometimes calls for it with certain patterns of behaviour which do not improve the encyclopaedia. I am really not seeing the problem. I do generally agree though that "rogue" admins should be dealt with - though that relates more to the character of the blocks they make (eg consistently punitive rather than preventative, or not on policy grounds) rather than subsequent notification. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Tifa Lockhart art.jpg)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Tifa Lockhart art.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 09:26, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi there. I guess you and I both noticed some extensive changes to this article on the recent changes list. I had initially reverted Sina-aria's entire edit (unhelpfully described as a 'minor' edit) and then thought better of it and decided to undo my revert and manually remove the poor parts and keep some of the better stuff. If you're familiar with the topic, you might want to read through all the changes and see what's there; I really don't know much about the subject, myself. Matt Deres (talk) 01:37, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

I agree that many were certainly POV-ish. This is a good example of why it's a good idea to do several smaller edits instead of doing a whole bunch at once; I probably would have kept some of the changes. Matt Deres (talk) 01:45, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
Yes, I was thinking along the same lines (and I specifically noticed the wealth-wealths thing!). I also noticed that he/she changed several of the place names and in some cases added Arabic text as well; if the edit was more in good faith, I would assume they were correct or more correct than the previous version, but I really don't know what to make of it. I don't know if homicidal or gynocidal is more correct in the context of the story. I think I'll leave a note on the talk page in case someone who knows about the topic wants to look through it. Matt Deres (talk) 01:57, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

Can you explain the special circumstance which required you to edit the article while it was protected?Kww (talk) 12:22, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Banquet, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Disagreement with your comments on an afd

edit

You, as an admin, should know better than to participate with comments such as [2]. Yngvarr 22:35, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

Just a note, I see no problem with the comment. Sarcastic, but far from a personal attack or similar. I thought it was funny and telling! VigilancePrime (talk) 05:23, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

US Army

edit
Good luck with the Army. Between now and then, do everything you can to get the advanced rank... the PT test prior to shipping to Basic, whatever you can. Trust me, it'll help in the long run (and even short run). Nobody wants to be in basic training without any stripe on their collar (and if you can get two, all the better, though making PV2 makes a big difference over PVT). May I inquore where you will be for Basic? VigilancePrime (talk) 05:23, 31 January 2008 (UTC) Best of Luck!!!

Democrat Party

edit

Well then have you read this article: Democrat Party (phrase)? 128.227.7.73 (talk) 23:49, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

Did you even read the grammar section? X Party does not mean party of X's especially since the Democratic Party was named after democracy not after its members. 128.227.7.73 (talk) 00:08, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the revert on my userspace! :) That vandal was mildly offensive, to make an understatement. ;-) Tuvok[T@lk/Improve] 09:21, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

No problem, and you're very welcome. We were getting it pretty bad last night. --Merovingian (T, C) 17:11, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

Corey Delaney Worthington

edit

This article was recreated in good faith several times, and has been deleted without adequate explanation. The version you deleted explained in its leading paragraph why it is that Worthington is significant, yet you assert the exact opposite (i.e. CSD A7). Given that part of the reason for the significance of the subject is the very debate within WP about its significance that has been reported in the global media (and is still accessible from those same media webpages, as well as noted on the archived WP discussion page itself! - note the self-referential sense of significance), how is it possible for WP Admins to deny that Worthington is either not significant in some way - or for that matter, only for the singular event of his party? Since his party, Worthington has had a media profile for many other things, including becoming a matter of significant disagreement among WP editors about his significance. If such a debate in itself doesn't give a subject significance, then that suggests that there is some confusion about the significance of WP itself. The disagreement actually reinforces Worthington's significance - it does not diminish it. In any event, some justifcation from you that goes beyond mere assertion of non-significance would be greatly appreciated, so that a better understanding of the policies and practices of WP admins can be understood. Need to edit a deleted article

edit

I would like to continue the editing of an article I was editing, accidentaly published without finishing citations, and was deleted. How can I do this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sidianmsjones (talkcontribs) 04:34, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

Hey, thanks for the barnstar! Sorry for the late response, I've been crazy busy with classwork. Your page says you are a student- JDHS, yakoosge or UAS? l'aqùatique talk 21:59, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

You know, I've heard some great stuff about homebridge. I can't recommend dual enrollment classes highly enough, although I suppose it's too late for a senior now! Only a few more months, right? l'aqùatique talk 20:07, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
