Apologies for publishing an incomplete edit of "The Curse of the Ninth", but...

I could not determine what I had done wrong despite looking at several instructions and models. If you think that it is worth keeping, can you fix it? Ferrarama (talk) 08:54, 11 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Ferrarama: The person who reverted you explained it pretty reasonably, I think.
Almost everything on Wikipedia must have citations / references. This is understandable, as we need to make sure false information isn't added. However, anyone can add information to sites like IMDB. We call this user-generated content. Due to this, we don't consider it reliable to use in articles. If we allowed IMDB, then anyone could add false information to IMDB, then use it to make a claim on wiki. There are some more reasons why this edit is improper, but that's the core idea. — PerfectSoundWhatever (t; c) 17:03, 11 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for explaining it. CBS seems not to maintain a website on this series anymore. Does the Amazon page selling the DVDs of this season and listing "The Curse of the Ninth" as episode 9's title count as a reliable source? Ferrarama (talk) 06:42, 30 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Ferrarama: Amazon usually isn't reliable. I would be hesitant to use Amazon because it doesn't demonstrate the notability of the statement. For example, there are likely tons of episodes that mention the curse of the ninth. But, it's better to only mention episodes that have independent sources mentioning the curse being on the episode, so we don't include EVERY mention of the curse that exists. I wrote an essay WP:EDWS which has similar pionts. Do any newspapers or articles discuss the episode? Also see WP:RSPAMAZON or WP:AMAZON. Thanks. — PerfectSoundWhatever (t; c) 01:51, 2 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your kind and frank reply and also for the thoughtful and helpful article on what constitutes useful citations. Good 2024 to you. Ferrarama (talk) 19:55, 3 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Question from Johnricart602 (13:06, 5 June 2024)

edit

Good day I wanted to add my company to Wikipedia. How can I do that? --Johnricart602 (talk) 13:06, 5 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Johnricart602: Hey, it is encouraged that you do NOT write an article about a company you are involved with. This is because you will likely introduce subconscious or conscious biases to the article due to your connection to it. If you decide to anyways, make sure it is created through the Articles for Creation process, the article is neutral, and that you properly declare your conflict of interest. Thoroughly read through the general notability guideline, as well as Wikipedia's core writing policies like WP:V, WP:NOT, and WP:NPOV. Let me know if you have any questions, thanks. — PerfectSoundWhatever (t; c) 21:32, 5 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

Question from Lanelizard (03:34, 8 June 2024)

edit

Hi! I have created a page but don't see how I can publish it in the primary encyclopedia. Do I need to make edits on articles (x10) in order for the article I created to be published? --Lanelizard (talk) 03:34, 8 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Lanelizard: Hi there! Only autoconfirmed users can create pages. To be autoconfirmed, your account must be at least 4 days old and have made at least 10 edits. Non-autoconfirmed users can only create their pages through Wikipedia's review process, Articles for Creation. I see you've already done that, so you only need to wait for a reviewer to look over it. They are reviewed in no particular order, so it could be tomorrow or 3 months from now. Hope that helps, let me know if you have any other questions. @Koavf: I did read it. What on that page says that the first column of a table must have row headers? Maybe I'm missing something — PerfectSoundWhatever (t; c) 16:41, 17 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

I'm not sure I understand. You said that I'm correct then implied that I did something incorrect. Is there a difference between it being a row header, and "semantically marked"? — PerfectSoundWhatever (t; c) 04:20, 18 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Question from Pistacialentiscus (12:13, 19 July 2024)

edit

Hallo PerfectSounWhatever! I am creating a wikipedia-page for a person, "Ulrich Arnswald". It is in my sandbox. The page was blocked because I took some content from his personal web page. After this I asked him (=the author) for permission to use his content for publication on wikipedia, and sent it to permissions-en@wikimedia.org. He gave me the permission. I did not get an answer from permission@wikimedia.org. How can I proceed now to publish the page? Best wishes, Pistacialentiscus --Pistacialentiscus (talk) 12:13, 19 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi there. How long ago did you send the permission emails? The volunteers may have simply not responded yet. Regardless, it is a terrible idea to copy someone's content from their webpage to use in a Wikipedia article. Their personal CV is biased towards them, and is likely not written in an encyclopedic manner. To get this article potentially published, you will have a much easier time if you do not use someone's personal web page.
If you have an association with Arnswald, (which is strongly discouraged), you need to declare this conflict of interest, instructions for doing so are here. — PerfectSoundWhatever (t; c) 04:08, 20 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Question from RebeccaM226 (15:33, 1 August 2024)

edit

Hello, I ask for assistance as my submission for an article about a musician was declined. Regarding reliable sources for a musician, which are the sites are considered as reliable sources for music release ? Because the reviewer said that discogs.com neither imdb are accepted. The proof of work of my musician article is on many of these places. what can we do to showcase that ? thank you for your help --RebeccaM226 (talk) 15:33, 1 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hey @RebeccaM226:, you can look at WP:A/S for a list of reliable music sources. Also, check WP:RSP for a more general list on which sources to use/not to use. Note that these lists are non-exhaustive, and sources may be reliable without being on the list.
The problem with Discogs and IMDb is that the content is generated by anonymous internet users. So, I'm sure it's understandable why we don't want to copy information from there— we have no way of knowing it's correct. Please read WP:RS for an in-depth guide on what constitutes a reliable source. In essence, you need to find reputable publications talking about your subject, like newspapers, magazines, or books. — PerfectSoundWhatever (t; c) 20:30, 7 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you so much for that !!! Can you tell me what is the limit to resubmit an article before the draft is deleted ? Also if it is deleted, can we resubmit later the same article ? thanks so much for your help. RebeccaM226 (talk) 16:46, 8 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hi @RebeccaM226:, glad I could help! A draft will be deleted if it hasn't been edited for six months. It can be undeleted if you decide to return to it, however. — PerfectSoundWhatever (t; c) 16:58, 8 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
