Guidelines for the mentoring arrangement and this page (proposed) edit

  1. The mentoring arrangement is an agreement between users PalestineRemembered (PR) and HG (mentor), hopefully with feedback and oversight from a rep on behalf of the CSN (e.g., Avi)
  2. Trial period. We'll try out the arrangement in short trial periods. The first time period will be Thursday, September 13th through Sunday, Sept. 16th.
  3. HG agrees to set up this page, draft and reach agreement on guidelines, and contact a CSN rep (Avi).
  4. Review. HG agrees to spend time on Sunday (9-16) to review some proposed edits submitted PR. Upon review, HG will provide a series of responses to the proposed edits. (Not to be discouraging, but it is possible that HG's responses will consist more of comments and questions, rather than a simple thumbs up or thumbs down.)
  5. Size. The number of edits to be reviewed is indeterminate, e.g. depending on their length and complexity, and HG's available time.
  6. Scope. The parties haven't agreed yet to limit PR's proposed edits. HG would prefer that PR edit only a single highly controversial article (e.g., Battle of Jenin) and as many non-controversial articles as PR wants. HG also notes his likely reluctance to give an easy thumbs up for PR edits on WP procedures, esp. any allegations by PR.
  7. PR agrees not to make any edits in Wikipedia that have not been reviewed and given a thumbs up by HG on this page. This includes articles, article Talk, and WP: pages. (Exceptions include comments on HG's Talk, PR's special user pages. HG is willing to discuss boilerplate comments that PR can use during the trial period, if PR so desires.)
  8. PR agrees to respond to HG's review in a timely manner (e.g., by Monday, Sept 17th), regardless of whether the mentoring trial ends at that point.
  9. If PR makes edits that are inconsistent with this agreement, then HG reserves the right to immediately cancel the mentoring arrangement. In any case, PR may cancel the arrangement at any time, for any reason, though he is expected to notify HG and discuss the reasons in advance.
  10. Renewal. The parties may renew the mentoring agreement as they see fit.
Discussion of the arrangement edit

This arrangement is based on the prior review of PR's edits. An alternative would be to follow edits by the review. For instance, PR could submit edits and notify readers of mentoring arrangement. (For instance, PR could add a message such as "Complain about this post" to his signature, via preferences.) However, I don't like the idea of inviting complaints that I would have to discuss or even negotiate, nor the implication that the mentoring itself is wide open for input. I think some limited feedback could be constructive, but mostly I see the mentoring as a conversation between two people. HG | Talk 19:37, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
